Having picked up my 2001 CD2.2 mig a week ago i was pleased with what i got for the money i paid, a lady owner so the car was full of smellys (nice if you like that sort of thing) the 60 mile trip home was good and it wizzed down the motorway home. The next day i got a good chance to go over it and there was no rust dings or dents on the body, interior a nice Shale colour. the next thing was to get rid of all the smellys hanging everywhere. but on running the heaters it soon became clear why they was there to mask the stink of oil fume coming into the cabin, i did not run the fans or heaters on the way home. Could not see any dripping oil so took it to the local garage who stated "yep cam gasket gone oil leaking out the back of it we will do it for you about £120 all in" so bought the car back opened the bonnet and looked at it again i had looked at the cover several times and it looked nice and clean but then i noticed that the bolts at the back were a different colour to the rest and on touching them found they were only finger tight pulled them down oil leak gone. so i was looking the problem right in the face and didnt see it so observation is key here and i wonder if the garage would have noticed the loose bolts or changed the gasket anyway.
