Y32SE won't start (when worm)
« on: 12 May 2008, 00:23:38 »

Hi.
I discovered a problem with my omega today in France!
After about 200miles driving with aircon on, the engine wouldn't start after the stop over (5 mins)... As I didn't know what to look at, we were waiting for a miracle and after about 30-45 minutes the engine started, but later on I had to switch it off and it wouldn't start again. Another 30 minutes waiting and it was ok. Once we got to eurotunnel we stack again at the wating lanes and we missed 2 trains  >:( My car have beed towed into the train, and again once we got to Folkestone after 35 minutes the engine started as normal.
I've noticed that when the engine is running and I switch it off and on again it starts normally. I tried it few times when we got back home. I went back to my car 10 minutes later and it wouldn't start >:( 30 minutes later it started normally, well.. I had to turn it slightly longer.

P.S. The symbol of the car with a spanner came up once.

Do you know what it might be?

Thaniks in advance

Read the fault codes......press the brake pedal and the accelerator (to the floor) and turn the ignition on (dont start the car, just so the dash light come on).......now count the flashes on the ECU light.

I've noticed but the brake/accelerator pedal way worked in the end (don't know what I've done wrong before) and it continously flashes. No error codes?

Which also tends to sudgest a crank sensor failure is possible.

Odd that there are no codes but when my crank sensor failed hot starting problems was the first symptom.

If your sensor is original (wire routed up with the oil cooler pipes) I would be inclined to change it or at least keep a spare in the boot. If it hasn't failed now it's due to.

Another thing to try is cranking it in "flood clear" (foot to the floor on the accelerator, which disables injectors) for a few seconds before trying to start normally. If the injectors are weeping a little fuel into the intake when parked up this will prevent the engine flooding.

I have replaced crank senson in my previous opel cars, but where is it in 3.2?

P.S. another problem, after the battery was disconnected the sunroof stopped working. What do i need to do? (I know what to do with electric windows, but not with sunroof) Eventually i'll check the fuse.

Thanks.

Crank sensor is to the rear, passenger side of the engine block, down low next to the oil cooler. The connector it plugs into is behind the passenger side cylinder head. If you remove the scuttle panel access is easier. Have a look at the howto for crank sensor replacement. The new sensor cable should be routed up the inner wing by the air con / brake lines to avoid the heat.

Just cut the old sensor off and leave the cable in place as it's not easy to remove.

Are you saying that I will need to sold the new sensor to the cut wire bit?
I understand how difficult is to remove the whole thing, it is a fkn hell  :o

Passenger side in my case would be the driver side? My car is left hand drive.

Have a look:

and

You don't connect the new sensor to the wiring from the old sensor, just cut this off and leave the old wire disconencted. Then run the wire attached to the new sensor up the inner wing instead of around the back of the engine and close to the exhaust where the heat can damage it.  :y
