Heating gone again
« on: 04 October 2019, 16:17:40 »

Omega V6 3.0 FL
Last year I cleaned the heating at professionals, they connected the input and the output the heating on special machine, it took out a lot of oil out, so for a few months it was ok. Again at spring heating was gone, cold air out of it. Two weeks ago, I cleaned it and by myself, using water hoses, it was successful, hot air started to come out of the vents, car heating was perfect. After two weeks, now, it started to blow not so hot air, so I guess its a matter of time when it will be gone totally again. Any experience with this
Thank you

I had blocked heater matrix, tried to clean it with varoitus methods without succes. Then I changed it and had no problems after that. Nice job. There is a guide here in maintenance section. If blocked matrix is your problem perhaps you just have to change it.

You say there was a lot of oil in the heater when you had the matrix professionally cleaned out. Have you had a oil cooler fail? If so, the cooling system needs a LOT of cleaning to get rid of any oil  still.in the system.
If cleaning the matrix works for a while it could still be oil ..... what's the coolant look like in the heater tank?

If by a LOT, you mean 23 times, then yes, it still needs flushing... About 20 more times.

Yes, Andy B, car had oil cooler problem twice, after second time, oil cooler was, how do I say, partially renewed with stainless steel, radiator was changed, water pump was changed, all new rubber hoses , also new coolant. After that coolant is crystal clear, I m checking it every week. I'm thinking of spending a day of flush with water,  drive it, than repeat flush. As much as can. Hope that would get me through winter. And than I go and fix the air con and prepare for summer :)

but if you keep getting oil blocking the heater matrix, then you must have oil in the rest of the cooling system   ;)

Well, coolant is clear, I can clearly see bottom of the expansion tank. I will make a pic later today. When flushing the matrix, as I turned the water on, it gave a bit of struggle to push to the other side. Then very shortly clear water started to come out. Same thing happened when switching the sides of in and out of the matrix. Yes I know by logic, oil should be everywhere in the system. But its not, since the lpg vaporizer works perfect and I also check liquids in engine every week.

Crystal clear? That implies no antifreeze?

That will cause extreme corrosion internally.  Not sure if heater matrix is made of.

This.
I spent ages flushing mine, and it went from is it on?
to warm eventually. Replacing the matrix(a €20 part) provided HOT air within 2km of engine start.

I cut the end tank off the old matrix out of curiosity: 2 out of 13 tubes were so badly silted up that I couldn't poke some lockwire down them.

I wouldn't waste time flushing an underperforming Omega heater again, but would go straight for  a new matrix. Even though I know it's a horrible job.

After oil cooler change  -_-Get 2 dishwasher tablets, crumble them up in a jug add hot water, pour into expansion tank, fill up with water, take for a good drive, 50-100km, drain and repeat, should take about 4/5 goes, then be okay to refil with 50% anti-frezze mix.

Yes, but where Gintonic is driving I believe they have traffic in right side so steering wheel in left side and "much more" space to work. I have some photos where I cut the center console if of interest. Could pm to someone who could publish them until I learn to do it by myself. Need to reinstall Microsoft Office etc. first. Never used Photobucket either, but I will try later.

Doctor Gollum , sorry, my English is not so good so when i said crystal clear , I ment only clear regular blue coloured but not so blurry with a bit of transparency in it ( i hope i wrote that right )

Polirara , what is the part number of the heater matrix, its not a bad idea just to change it , i think I can do it myself and save myself from trouble again, but since its an older model , is it easy to find? And how big it is in volume , I have a good friend in UK , i can ask him to get it for me

Biggriffin , yes i plan to change the coolant, before that i plan to do a flush of the system. I did that on my old opel rekord B  ( which is very very similar to the omega ) .i bought some cleaning liquid , after releasing the coolant , flled the sysytem with water , put the liquid in, ran the car for 20 min .

And yes , my steering wheel is on the left side of the car ,
I just cleaned the matrix again, dirt came out again , but not so much .Not so black, more like yellow water mixed with oil
Heater is ok for now :)

Hello again. Again, after a flush heating works only on HI position. Any other temperature setting is blowing cold

The matrix is blocked so badly that flushing does little to help.
Get a new matrix as they're cheap.
Fitting one isn't a nice job.

I must do that. Where I live, there are some aftermarket matrix, cost around 20 euro. Have no idea what brand. What kind should I search for, specific one or any brand would do the job

Thank you all. Now to get my mind set on replacing the matrix. Tough job, looks like that. Been reading the threads for replacement. My omega is right hand drive,  I still have to cut and bend a part of the plastic?

it's better than removing the entire dash.

If you're careful and neat with the cuts, nobody who looks at the car will know you've done it until they remove the fusebox cover.

Understood your steering wheel is in the left, can you open the link above? I just "skimmed" the vinyl away without cutting it. It was just glued to the foam. Then I cut the plastic part in a place seen in photo and bent it down with 2 kg plate. When job jobbed I joined the cut parts with two narrow and thin metal sheets and screws and glued the vinyl back. It cannot be seen at all that I was there.

Once you've fitted the new matrix, remove the plastic end off the old one to see why flushing them is a waste of time :y
