Do you need the special tool to remove the pipework? Remember fatty admin had a gadget, can I just it with basic tools? 3.2 one is rather old

So I bought my Zafira from Fuse19's favourite dealer, Evans Halshaw 
It fitted the specs I wanted and budget, so went to a dealer up at St Albans. I did consider other dealers, but often these were "appointment only" places, or some rented industrial unit. Handing over the cash I did, wanted a dealer of some sorts. (did not have to be Vx)
Anywho, they keep calling me to flog me a service plan. I am just ignoring it and initial reaction is just trying to flog something I don't need. As when I bought it, I told them were to go with all the kinds of insurance and warranties they tried to flog. I just bought the car
Any thoughts? Anyone have a Vauxhall one, STEMO?
It's '14 plate, 41k miles. I would need to keep service history up for a few more years, but was planning on just basic oil changes to keep service history stamped up.
I would change, air filter, fuel filter, pollen filters, brake pads etc.

Discussions on DPF reminded me to ask, can Tech2 speak to a 2014 Zaf Tourer 2.0 CDTi?

Omega General Help / Puddle Light - Door Switch?

Only noticed today, as it's getting dark. But the passenger door puddle light works fine when I open the drivers door, but open the passenger side and it no worky.
I know they get stuck some times, so manually activated it a number of times, no joy

General Discussion Area / Cooker Hood Fuse

Cooker Hood - Fuse location
So the extractor fan on the cooker hood blew some time ago, really should fix it. The bulb blew, it took out the whole thing as even a replacement bulb won't work nor the fan. It does not actually extract it, just filter it out.
Where is the fuse for this? Doing some Googling suggests there should be a fused spur separate from the plug? As it's powered by 3 pin plug in one of the cabinets, is there a fuse in the chimney area? Can't see one in the light area.
Not sure how the chimney bit comes off

Today noticed gap in the tired rubber seal at the base of the GPS ariel, can I just smear some black or clear sealant around the base?

I guess because it's the type of car, they make the extra's what people want. My new Zafira Tourer has aircon and cruise control, aux input, tyre pressure sensors, all of which are standard even on the base model.
What is optional extra, is the storage
The SE model, has a nice little sunglasses storage in front of the MID, it's optional on mine. As are the useful under seat storage boxes, the rear storage is same with box in the back of the arm rest for back seat people to use.
Tried to look for guides to retro fit these, particularly the storage in front of the MID and under seat stuff. But as usual all other forums are total cr@p, a post once a month at best and sod all technical knowledge.

Anyone recently put an exhaust trim on the 3.0/3.2 twin pipes? Due to their being 2 pipes being close together some may not fit side by side
The Zafira has a nice little Chrome trim (from the factory) which makes it look nice. Always thought the eternal exhausts are good value, but don't look great...

Sister-in-law complained she was sat for 90 mins at Kwit Fit waiting for work on her car, I asked what she was having done. New front wipers and dipped bulb replaced, so not only taking that long. But they charged her £78
£19 & £16 for each front blade and £24 for a bloody bulb!!!!!
Eurocarparts can get me that lot for £18, reckon cheaper at Halfords Trade as ECP wanted £16 for wiper set, can get them for £9.99 a Halfords on trade.
Told her to bring it to me next time.

When I bought the CC my intentions were that I would drive to work every day, plus weekend miles as well. I would then replace the 3.2 with something for the wife, but for past few months the CC was getting hardly any use.
I now car share, plus negotiated working from home 1 day a week, as the wife has been a bit unwell (one of those 9 month things
) - I also plan to always work one day a week from home now, as it’s now my ‘normal week’
So I drive to work just 2 days per week, so thought might as well use the valuable car for something more practical and I keep the 3.2 for work.
Also confession time, I should have bought the CC as an auto. Fine to begin with but the effortless of the auto on my commute is now must have. But I had too many concerns about DSG.

Test Zone / Guide: Adding AUX input to NCDC 2013/5

This is a guide for adding an AUX input for the NCDC 2013/15 units, as time has marched on the lasers in these units have really begun to die off. Add to the fact the CD changer (CDC) units easily get stuck, an AUX input is really useful.
In my case, the CDC unit broke some time ago and would not eject. Having used modern cars with bluetooth music streaming, I found it really useful. This guide allows you to add an aux input, to then use with a bluetooth adaptor.
**Note** That my guide here does not make the CDC switchable, this will make it only AUX input and render the CDC useless. You could wire a switch in if you want instead.
Tools needed:
Torx T9 & T7
8mm spanner/socket
Soldering Iron + Solder
Wire strippers
RCA Component Cable
I started off with a standard NCDC 2013 unit:
Use an 8mm socket to remove the bracket at the rear of the H/U.
You need to remove this, which helps grip to the side of the cage. You need a T9 for the larger black screw, do this on both sides of the H/U.
A T7 torx is required to remove the 4 screws holding the CDC to the front of the H/U. Remove these (2x each side)
This will allow the CDC unit to lift up, giving access to the ribbon from the main radio to the CDC, this will just pull down and off. (red plug)
The CDC is now free...
Remove the 2x T7 Torx on the back of the CDC, to allow the top plate to come off, this allows more room to feed cables through later.
Here is my standard RCA cable:
I stripped off the video (yellow) cable, cut off the L/R and stripped them. I had around 0.5m of cable, incase I messed up the connections, to give me spare cable to cut and start again.
Next you need to splice into the ribbon, you need a sharp stanley knife for this. You need to expose (going fromt the left) 1,4,8
1 = Audio L
4 = Audio R
8 = Earth
I then attached 1,4 to L & R audio feeds. You can see here the shielding of the cable, which acts as the earth. I twisted these together to give one connection point. (It's a long time since I did any soldering)
Next up is the earth, for this my method was to use the bracket I took off earlier, I slid this underneath to protect the main ribbon. I then used the soldering iron to burn through the plastic, to expose the core wire, so I could attach the earth.
Everything attached
I then tapped it all up, as I don't have any heat shrink, take note to also tape off un used ribbon connectors. I then put this togther, feeind the cables through into the CDC unit and out the front flap of the H/U.
It's then a case of putting it all back together, you then have assembled unit with RCA ouputs.
You can then use this how you wish, for my needs I bought a £10 cordless bluetooth adpator. So that I could pair my phone to it, for bluetooth audio via Spotify. Press the CDC button to swtich to this audio feed and press play on your device.
