Odd MOT Dates
« on: 10 October 2018, 00:38:49 »

I'm looking at the MOT history of a car I'm thinking of going to see and there's something odd about the dates.  :-\

The first five years the MOT has been at the end of September and then it fails its MOT on 26/09/14 and passes the retest on 01/10/14.

It's then tested again on 20/01/15 where it fails on headlamp aim too high, and passes the retest on the same day.

Why would it have been presented for MOT just 3 months or so after it's got an MOT?  ???  :-\

Accident maybe?  Do cars that have had accident damage have to be re-MOT'ed?   ???

It's a private sale, the advert is brief, and it's cheap "... for quick sale."  ::)

Could have simply been retested as a condition of sale ;)

Certainly I would have no qualms asking for a fresh MoT on purchase... Granted three months previous is a bit fussy...

Advisories on the last MOT are front tyres close to legal limit and Low Oil!! so it's clearly not been cherished...  ::)  :-\

But it's cheap!  About a grand under, so a fair bit of scope to sort things out if needs be.  :y

Might go and have a gander!  :)

I'd imagine the tester has seen a dash warning light and advised. My last test advised re the coolant leak I knew about, which turned out to be the HBV.

Usual MOT place I use checks the oil level before doing the emissions test. Not an MOT requirement but shows some mechanical sympathy before using the throttle!

Al is right.

I always insist on 12 months if the car is old enough to need an MOT.

You'd be amazed to find how many dealer use the expression 'full MOT'.........for the car to only have seven or eight months remaining.

Yes, in the same way that a "full service" means someone has been round the engine bay with a rag and a can of WD40. ::)

A rag and WD40.......luxury.

A gormless apathetic  'yoof' with a damp cloth seems to be the norm. ;)
