If memory serves me correctly.. you get nothing back when you "re-export" a vehicle ... you only avoid all the VAT etc if you export it BEFORE registration.. but I could be wrong  :(

If you get the chance, make yourself known to the CMC (Chairman of the Mess Committee) at the "pre-dinner" drinks ( and go easy on those as they lead to un-authorised absences ..more on those later !) and explain your "newness" ... he will then be more lenient on transgressions ....you hope ...  :)

Any breaches of "mess etiquette" are usually dealt with in the form of "fines", the most common "fine" being a bottle of port. Leaving the table without permission is the most obvious crime, as is starting to eat too soon, drinking from the "wrong" glass, and anything else the CMC can dream up.. all done in the sense of "banter" and enjoyment.

At the end of the meal the Port is passed ALWAYS to the left, and the decanter must NEVER touch the table..  serious breaches of tradition to do otherwise. Do NOT drink the Port until the Loyal Toast is taken. all decanters are the "property" of "Mr Vice" .. if you like Port get close to him as he will replenish glasses as he sees fit !!  :) It is at this point that fines are paid .. and the fines added to the decanters....

The after dinner chat/stories/banter is as much a part of a Ladies Dining In Night as the meal itself.

Above all .. relax and enjoy ... I know you will have a great time

IMHO if it turned over OK to do the compression test .. without any too nasty noises ... it is probably OK to try and start it then to set up the exact timing later.

just my 2.7 p's (inc VAT)

I think "chucking it about" on a limited distance 2 to 3 mile strip ( if you are lucky .. most disused airstrips are only about 1 mile), followed by highspeed turns around a taxiway is a recipe for disaster.

My high speed run was a short part of over 50 miles of 3 lane road with no "turns" just a few "curves" ... called an autobahn ..  :)

Autobahn 2 years ago ... 146 on the speedo, showing 135 on the satnav, instant fuel consumption 12 mpg :(

slowed down to a steady 100 satnav (108 speedo) instant fuel up to 18 mpg !!  :)

Spent ages cleaning and feeding the leather in the MV6, esp the bits that I've had inside the house since fitting the Bose.  Plan was to fit them today.

Anyway, making Omegatoy a cuppa earlier, the milk bottle fell off the side, and, yup, splatted all over them.

Bugger.
