Replaced the headlight bulbs on the XJ *again*, which is a bumper off job. Bloody idiots.
Gixer must be lurking, as he reminds me it wasn't as straightforward as I made out ;D

To replace a headlight bulb, you have to remove the headlight.
To remove the headlight, you have to remove the bumper.
To remove the bumper, you have to remove the wheelarch liner.
To remove the liner, you have to remove the wheels.
To remove the wheels, you have to remove the crap, junk, pathetic, useless, poor, unreliable wheelnuts JLR inherited from Ford, which is where the troubles started.

Hence, rather than the £50 each no-name short life bulbs from the usual online bulb sellers, I spend £144 from a reputable supplier for top notch Osrams.  Worth the extra £44 if I don't have to do it for another 5yrs - the Halfords junk lasted less than 2yrs.

Sworn. A lot. But got new front springs on and gave the brakes a strip and clean. Getting there!

Drove it to Redditch in the rather optimistic hope of leaving it there...

Unfortunately the car I went to see was a £400 restoration project and not the £900 daily driver it was advertised as...

Yes it has a years ticket, but the tester was clearly blind as he completely missed the two fist sized holes in the front inner wings and a broken seat belt buckle :-X

It would be fair to say that the pictures were, um, generous  ;D

MOT standards vary frighteningly  :o
always worth giving a car a good look over, even if it does have "12 months MOT"
well done for walking away and good luck with your search  :y

It did at least confirm the choice of car as it was the first time I have actually had a close look at one ;)

Couple more on the short list :y

Cleaned up the rear seats on the restoration project tonight. Covers in reasonable condition, but, years of dirt under.
Will have another inspection of the floor tomorrow.

Inspection of floor - some rust repair required, but, nothing terrible. Firewall and inner wings look good. Some repair required to back of boot.

Had visions of recovering it, but she managed to limp it home.  So checked it, ragged it, agree there is a fault, and sent her out for the day in it.  What could possibly go wrong?

I suspect I will have to go looking for the spare car later, but as per the great Fuse 19, I ain't got a scooby doo where I left it ;D
