How much time spent on maintaining Omega/driving ?
« on: 13 March 2009, 15:52:17 »

So how much time do you spend repairing/maintaining your Omega as opposed to driving it?

For me it seems about equal parts! More if you count loss of sleep over whatever is wrong with it that day.  :) :)

Probably bugger all in my case, about 6-8 hours a year for 24K miles on my one.

So how much time does your Omega consume in maintenance/repairs compared with the time you spend actually driving it?

Er, about 500 hours behind the wheel for 8 hours work.....and mine is well maintained so it could be less for others

I spent some time getting it upto scratch but, this then pays off.

Only real work on tractor other than standard servicing was glow plugs.  That said, have dropped the tank and unchipped and rechipped ECU, as I suspected a fault, but turns out it was normal.

MV6 has only had a coolant bottle other than servicing.

I have spent time messing with radios etc in both of them though.

If you keep the car well serviced, using genuine Vx parts, the best oils and no skimping, you can will do mostly driving! ;) ;)

This has applied to all cars I have owned, including keeping a 19 year old, 250k mile, Toyota Carina II going for 6 years.  Good servicing is EVERYTHING! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Mine is not too bad now ,just keeping on top of things. With the miles that it has done trying to make sure it has an oil change at most every 3k which is keeping it alive ;D ;D.

That remindes me job for next week. ::) ::).

Not that much really, regular oil & filter changes, regular washing, polished about twice to three times a year (depending how bad the weather has been).

Never had such a trouble free car, now it's not dealer serviced

I've spent more time under the car / bonnet recently than I have driving it.

It seems that as soon as I fix one thing, something else crops up that needs attention. It's turning into Project Facelift rather than a daily driver...

Mind you, MOT by May 9th so I might end up taking a couple of days off work to spend some comprehensive time working on it - i.e. brakes, pads, shoes, wishbones, steering idler, drop links, autobox topup (again), diff oil change, oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter, pollen filter, etc etc etc.  :-/

When I buy the car, was not any critical problem..But instead there was a bunch of unsolved small problems because of the skinny previous owner..

However there were things disturbing me like it was loosing some coolant, engine not getting hot quicky,  classic drive train service items waiting to change, rear bushes clonking, shocks dead, tires were crap, idle was not fine, exhaust gasket leak ,head lights dont show nothing, some MID pixels dead, exhaust leaking because of rust etc etc..

So at the beginning I spend some serious money and time..

And as usual I couldnt stop there and even changed some extra sensors like crank , cam ,lambda sensors even MAF..

Result : no problem after (and may be another few years ) at the cost of another miggy.. ;D :y (paint included)

so what I do now..as miggy problems finished, I need another toy (pardon wife needs)  ;D , now continue to repair another car ;D
