Howling - Whining Noise from Rear between 90-115 Km/h
« on: 23 November 2019, 16:29:28 »

I have noticeable howling/whining noise between 90-110 Km/h. It goes away at 120 km/h. The noise is more when I put my foot to the gas/petrol pedal and significantly alters as I press the foot on/off. It also appears to vary from left to right rear when going around a slight bend at those speeds.

I have read various previous posts but can't figure it out.

Thanks for the help.

as lots of people, including professional mechanics who ought to know better, make a meal out of changing rear wheel bearings you'll only want to pay for the noisy one. Anyone who quotes more than two hours should be avoided, as with practice it's really an hour's work.

It could also be the differential bearings, or worn diff gears due to a low oil level.

Some actual on-the-car diagnosis is necessary before you buy any parts. That's always true no matter how convincing a forum diagnosis may be!

Belts and braces :y

My cursory diagnosis presumes that some deeper investigation (about 10 minutes on a lift) would isolate the culprit...;)

The fact that the OP states that noise alters between power on/off would have me looking carefully at the diff more so than the wheel bearings :y

Left/Right changes suggests it's outboard of the diff...
