ELM OBD11 scanner app for android recommendation?
« on: 25 November 2019, 10:12:34 »

Hello all
Can anyone recommend such an app (free please) form google play store for the 2.2 omega?
The ones I have tried have only worked partially or not at all.

Thanks

for ELM-327  :-\
torque android (free version ) works well with many vauxhall cars
don't know if it would work on any Omega being KWP2000 protocol though  :-\
it would only read/reset engine codes ,not ABS,gearbox,BCM,CIM etc etc

I'm glad you mentioned torque light because that is the one I tried first but most if not all the gauges failed to read. The other apps I tried were worse which makes me think the 2.2 engine system is not fully compliant with the protocol. However i have not tried the module in another vehicle.

You have to select what gauges you want to display on Torque anyway to read live data IIRC ,custom settings, plenty of youtube videos  :y
does ELM-327 read DTCs on your Omega ? and allow you to clear engine DTCs ?
not that i use it myself ,but I gave family members ELM-327 android bluetooth plugs ,so they can read codes ,so I know what may be the problem BEFORE i go sort it out  ;D which saves me a lot of time

The 2.2 is strictly EOBD compliant (which is the EU law).  All the crap like Torque Pro and similar software with highly cloned Chinese tat hardware interfaces are OBDII.

The 2 standards are close to each other, but not identical, hence the constant stream of questions about 2.2s and code reader issues.

Spend big money on a proper device that's not phone based, or get a v6. Or use the instrument panel.

I used scanmyopel on my 2.6 and 3.2.

Try the free/trial version to see if it works for you (then stump up £7 for the full verion if it can talk to your 2.2)

I'm thinking that by the time you have bought the hardware and the software, isn't a dedicated generic EOBD compliant code reader a better option for not a lot more money  :-\

Although, of course, brand specific software tools often cover a little bit more than just the drivetrain, which can add complexity into the buying decision.

thanks all

yes the difference between ODB11 and EOBD makes life unnecessarily difficult. However wasn't the Omega sold in the US as a small Cadillac? Maybe GM did/did not change the protocol but all US sold cars had to have OBD11 capability since before the European version became a requirement. Anyone know for sure?

I do already have  a good Foxwell scanner but it is not convenient to use it when driving hence the question re the ELM app that people have had good response using. To be clear: I want to see the gauges/graphs when on the move using an app that will communicate with the ELM module.

I'll try the scanmyopel app this week.

cheers

If you're planning on using the app on the move you must have a mini ELM327 interface?
There seems to be a version 1.5 and also 2.1. Does the version of interface matter?

The 2.2 is NOT OBDII compliant. It was not sold stateside.  Catera's retained the superior older V6's, not the inferior 2.6/3.2 (but with some mods)

2.2 not being obd11 complaint seems to be at the root of a lot of this but all the apps seem to get negative reviews.

I'll try the Opel scanner app. Any others?

Btw as the Catera has now been mentioned what differences are there: knowing that will help determine what YouTube repair videos are worth watching.

Cheers
