World Cup Thread
« on: 13 June 2018, 18:04:35 »

I am genuinely excited (again). I come out of hiding for the Euros and the World Cup and then spend two years recovering.

I think our team have a good chance. Young, full of energy, no great egos.

My Spanish friend is quite downbeat about Spain's chances but rates them higher than England. He thinks France versus Argentina for the final.

Who do you think will win?

I doubt we will win it but I'm glad we are  ayoung team instead of the experienced but well past their best players we usually take.

I am also looking forward to it, but I like football.

So long as we (England) play like we care, I will be happy.  We are too young and inexperienced to win it, but if we get out of  the group - which we should - every game is a final and anything can happen - Greece won the Euros against all expectation.

I get that not everyone likes football, but really don't get why there is so much hatred towards the team  :-\

Exactly. We should be patriotic. However we aren't very as a nation.

No self respecting Spaniard would do other than support Spain in the football, Alonso/Sainz in F1.

Put simply, they don't play with the conviction that the position demands.

Oh, and they aren't a team, they are a selection of people in the same place that happen to be wearing the same clothes.  ;)

On the plus side, catch up TV is going to be getting a hammering in my house. I'm not a football fan, if I'm unlucky, I might catch a game.

Varche, there will be loads of negative posts on this thread from the footie haters  . . . but one or two on here are football followers, myself included  . . .so will be following carefully  :y

We already know England probably wont go that far . . .but stranger things have happened .

We already know a lot of the oofers who detest footie  . . .so asking  in a polite manner, it would be sensible for those who have no interest ,not to post on a thread that you have no knowledge in or know nothing about   :-X :-X

Will be following England . . . but France , Germany, Brazil etc. will always have a major chance along with IMO Belgium who have a very strong side on paper  :-\

Be great if the arabs can get a result against Russia  today  ;D ;D ;D

Very strange decision to sack the Spanish manager as the tournament starts  :o :o :o

Actually, anyone can have, and voice, their opinion on anything here. Within reason.

When they come home after four games, I will say I told you so. Loudly and often.

Howevever, if they actually achieve anything, then I will be suitably gracious ;)

Will I follow it? Possibly, from a distance. Will I watch it, probably not unless the results suggest it worthwhile.

It's not hatred. Being English we crave disappointment, and all of the national teams are happy to provide it.

After being on here , albeit under different guises, for 9 years I do know that .

My point was that  . .why post on a thread  & give an opinion on a subject that you have no knowledge of or no interest in . Different of course if poster is asking advice or seeking to better his/her knowledge of the said subject  ;)

Anyway  . . .get up to the bar & get yourself another pint  . . .your on holiday  ;D ;D ;D ;D
