Went for the retested today and straight through :)

Need to do the rear brake pads soon (advisory) but will probably be ok till the new year.

Bits are on their way  :) should be here in the morning. So should be MOT'd by mid afternoon. A quick question now, does anybody know what size the nylock nuts are that hold the balljoints on? need to replace the ones I've undone.
I seem to recall the rod will come with new ones...

I would think it should, I need to replace to ones on the tie rod ends though.

IIRC, Autovaux were around £60. Dealer wanted £100 odd...

Sounds like a call to autovaux in the morning.

Well got the steering idler ball joint off eventually, it was well stuck. Once off found the balljoint is seized in position will not pivot in any direction, so it looks like I will have to replace to centre tie rod. Anyone got any idea of prices for this bit??

Does anybody know what size the big nut is that holds the steering arm onto the steering box is?

Well got the discs done today in about an hour and a half :). Idler arrived with the post so decided to do that as well, spent the rest of the day trying to split the old idler from steering arm without sucess >:( will have to have a rethink, may have to take the whole steering linkage off. :o
Ball joint splitter reqd if tight..

Got one, its so tight that there isn't enough of a gap to fit the fork of the splitter between the steering arm and the idler. That's why I was thinking of taking the whole thing off to be able to work at a more comfortable angle.

Well I've got the discs and will be doing them this morning if the weather is fine. Ordered the idler from autovaux so hopefully will have that tomorrow.

What I meant to ask is,
does anybody know if I get the idler for less elsewhere??

Have you tried autovaux?

No not yet, just tried the local dealer

Hard luck Salty :( But could've been a LOT worse :)
Your right there, at least they're fairly easy jobs to tackle.

Well just got back from a failed mot :(  although not as bad as it could have been I suppose. Need new front discs, which are an item I think of as consumable so not too bad. Also needs a new steering idler which looks like a trip to the dealer and £60 trimmed from the wallet.
At least I know what I'm doing this weekend ;D
