Advance notice, outage this weekend...
« on: 26 January 2017, 19:29:22 »

....assuming the shit turns up, it was ordered last week on a 3 day delivery, still not here  >:(

We need to swap out some non-redundant network gear, which will involve an outage of approx. 2hrs, and a series of outages of less than 2 mins each.

Its too cold to mess about with cars anyway, so hope the outages will be nothing more than a minor inconvenience.  If you need a guide for this weekend, I'd recommend printing it off :)

Ah, Network Gear, per chance the bit that talks to the Outside World?

Does this mean I might be able to post as normal, rather than having to bounce my IP half way around the Planet.  ;D :P

Sadly, no, as that issue is with your service provider I'm afraid.

In the coming weeks there are plans to start to move towards https which likely will improve your specific situation (and to stop those mongrels who love Google's shitty Chrome browser from losing access), though its going to cause people using old computers and software some pain  :'(

On my tablet some sites tell me my browser is out of date... no shit, I have had it at least six years ;D

Use Chrome on the phone, if only because that's the browser it chose... and IE on the laptop...

My browser choice is simple: Does it allow me to browse the web? If the answer is yes, then all is well ;D

Joking aside, try replacing the Hamster with a Tibetan Terrier puppy... more energy than edf :o

As ever your efforts are genuinely appreciated :y

I'm afraid to say you might be Donald Ducked in the coming weeks. I did post up a while ago what options might work when we make the change, can't remember what/if the XP options were.

These days I reckon it'd be cheaper just to buy a new laptop  >:(.

Took a bit longer than planned, as unexpected networking issues encountered.  I'll open a ticket with the vendor tomorrow, so no doubt will be some tweaking over the next couple of weeks  >:(

Although it looks like we have finally resolved the TMobile issue, we still need to press ahead with the security enhancements in the coming weeks, which will mean users of old software and browsers will loose access. Sorry.
