General Car Chat / Car SOS
« on: 28 March 2020, 21:57:08 »
I just watched car SOS and the work they have done on a Lotus Esprit. The one thing that impressed me a lot was the digital dash that was made. It got me.wondering if the same thing could be done for my Senator dash. However I can't see the name of the manufacturer on the credits or on the web. Anyone have any idea who they are. Based in Wales I believe.

General Car Chat / Car spraying
« on: 11 May 2019, 15:26:34 »
Hello all

I was just hoping to get some advice. Been repainting the roof of my Senator and all has gone really well. Will be laying down the laquer tomorrow after going over it with wet and dry. What I need to know before I start is do you need to thin out the laquer like you do with basecoat. The current ratio for basecoat is 2 to 1.

Thanks

General Car Chat / Deep sockets
« on: 09 November 2018, 08:44:08 »
Why is it that they skip 18mm deep sockets in the tool set. I have three different sets and they have 17mm-19mm but no 18mm. Trying to change the shocks on my wife's Medical and need an 18mm deep socket. Have to drive all the way out to Machine mart to get one.

General Discussion Area / Free Mot
« on: 10 September 2018, 20:47:17 »
Halfords are offering free MOT with any purchase at store or online. Purchases must be made between 10th September - 14th October. MOT valid till 31st October 2019. Obviously they will try and get further work out of it but worth a try.

As above. New starter motor, new alternator, adjustment pulley and belt. Recent cambelt change approx 15000 miles ago.
172000 miles
Running rough, think it needs a new coil pack. Needs two new front tyres and tracking done. Has a MOT about 3 months ago. Oil changed every 5000 miles. No visible rust but bodywork is slightly marked and lacquer slightly peeling on bonnet. It also has rear sunblinds as advertised on TV where they clip into place allowing windows to be lowered without having to remove.
Looking for around £400.00 for car as is or if you need parts you will have to come and get them as I can't be arsed getting my hands dirty then having to post.

Omega General Help / A nightmare journey
« on: 10 July 2018, 10:07:29 »
So yesterday morning I hitched our new caravan onto the Omega with the family for our holiday to the Netherlands. Getting onto the M25 all good till the drive belt gave up lost all power and had to pull up onto the side slip road. Called the car rescue company who came out and diagnosed a seized alternator which had caused the drive belt to snap. Unfortunately because we have a caravan on the back we would require 2 vehicles to get us to the garage for repairs. The low loader arrived and Omega put on the back then the caravan was hitched up to another recovery vehicle. I was with the recovery vehicle with the caravan attached when suddenly the caravan comes off the recovery vehicle and goes straight across the M25 and hits the concrete barrier separating the motorway direction. Luckily no cars managed to hit the caravan, even though it was 8 in the morning. Police phoned, motorway closed so the caravan could be pushed onto the hard shoulder. Highway agency blamed the recovery vehicle for incorrect hitching. The breakaway cable had snapped due to forces involved. Insurance sorting that out. Car repaired so we decided to carry on with the journey as insurance would cover accomodation in the Netherlands. Car was running well and motoring along the roads in the Netherlands when I felt a loss of power. Hardly any acceleration and just managed to limp to the campsite at 12 in the evening. Woke up this morning started the car running really rough. Smoke pouring out the back so switched it off and have called recovery again. Did a pedal check, lots of codes,0650,0300,0304,0306,0302,0156,0340 etc. The question is, is it terminal and ready to be scrapped. After yesterday, things can't get worse.

Does anyone else on here belong to ABS and have difficulties joining the forum. Surely if you are a member the forum should be accessible straight away without going through another link. Since I subscribed I have never been able to access it and just gave up.

General Discussion Area / Saved some money
« on: 06 January 2018, 14:22:27 »
Decided to have a clear out of our outgoing finances. Changed energy supplier and saved £120.00 per year then got in touch with SKY and told them I was planning on leaving. They re assessed my SKY package and gave me a new router with faster speed and saved myself £230.00 per year. All up a saving of £350.00 a year with two phone calls and 15 mins of my time. Next is the insurance companies for house and 3 cars. Well worth it.

General Discussion Area / Road trip
« on: 02 July 2016, 21:49:35 »
Just boarded the train in Dusseldorf.  Drove the Omega from Bournemouth this morning and loaded it on the car train heading to Vienna. Then driving to Bratislava. Happened to drive on one of the Autobahns with no speed limit. Had to try the car out so got it up to 120mph. Handled really well but a good road helped. Had to slow down when a Opel Omega pulled into the fast lane. This is one of many trips in the Omega including Scotland earlier on this year, Italy and Holland last year as well as France.

Omega General Help / Evaporator
« on: 24 June 2016, 09:56:21 »
Leading on from my Aircon problem. Must be the pipes leading into the evaporator. How can you access these pipes under the dash, is it a dash out job. Garage saying 6.5 hour job plus parts. Car is a 2.6 Estate.
