Omega General Help / Re: Headlight dropping to bits

God, yes please to the drawings Nick!

It so happens that we've got a 3D printer in my department, also one of our A-level students is a whizz with pretty much and CAD program known to man...

Thanks loads for the info Nick, and that photo is really helpful too. At least I know what I'm trying to look for.  Is the resin one a Vauxhall part, or do I source it elsewhere?
Thank you,

John.

Omega General Help / Re: Possible air lock?
« on: 26 November 2021, 22:29:58 »
I'd definitely gi with Dr Gollum's refill procedure, it worked well for me the last time I had to flush the heater. That was after the RAC had to fix a blown coolant hose, and the heater wasn't right from that day, which I suspect was an airlock combined with a stilted matrix.  It really doesn't take much air to be stuck in there to cause big problems.

And onto the next thing...

So basically, I'm going over the omega putting lots of annoying niggly things right:
So far...

Speaker suspension foam repaired with 'tacky glue' and ready to go back in.

Tie rods ordered, as the adjusters are seized on the originals and the tracking is out enough that the steering wheel is quarter to the left.

Boot struts ordered, since the car tried to bite me clean in half last time I had to get something from right at the back of the boot.

Rear lights all fitted with new bulbs, as the lid slammed shut with enough force to shatter all the bulbs, which obviously wouldn't have happened if I'd been reaching into the boot to get something from right at the back...

Headlights now clean, clear and minty fresh.  "While I'm on," I thought, "I'll fit those nightbreakers I bought for the other car and never fitted."  Obviously, they were the wrong size for the Omega lights.

However, when I put the old bulb back in, I noticed the entire reflector is loose and rattling around inside the light unit freely.  Is this a common thing? Does anyone know how to fix it please? Presumably the light comes apart somehow once I've got it out of the car?

On a positive note, I may just have tracked down the annoting rattling noise from that corner of the car when I go over rough roads...

Thanks, I'll pull fuses and see what's what. Maybe I shorted the puddle lights putting the connector back on.  It's going to wait until it's not hailing and sleeting though!!!

Omega General Help / Courtesy/Map/Door lights out!!!

Hi there,
Does anyone have any idea why all my interior lights have gone out? They were fine until I followed the excellent guide for repairing the door cards earlier this week. Since then, there are no interior lights. I'll admit I've not been out in the cold to check the fuses, the handbook says fuse 12, which is also the radio display and hazard warners, which are working fine.  Is there a stupidly obvious thing I've missed?

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

Thank you to all for the replies.  I've sent an enquiry to the parts people in Ireland, I'll wait and see what they come up with,

Many thanks,

John.

Omega General Help / Door Check Strap Bush
« on: 09 November 2020, 12:18:41 »
Hi everyone,

I saw a part number on this site ages ago for the strap bush for the front doors, however, whenever I try to look through Vauxhall's spares sites they don't come up.  Have they been superceded or do they just not make them any more?  My car might be old and tatty, but the cracking door is annoying, and I'm worried it might put wear on something more drastic.

Thank you,

John.

Omega General Help / Boot spare wheel carpet

Hello everyone,
Does anyone know the part name or number  for the little plastic poppers that hold the spare wheel cover in place?  Mine are at the roadside somewhere in France, they always come out from the carpet whenever you remove it.

Aha,

Thank you for that Doctor Gollum kind sir!!

It'll be a CD then!!!  Now to see if anyone's got a seat going spare.

On a side note, do you know what the little plastic things are called that hold the spare wheel carpet up?  I appear to have left them somewhere in Rural France...  I'm going to put a separate post in a minute.

John

Sorry, I've not been in touch, everything has got in the way of everything else for a while, you know how it is.  So a temporary fix is a big square of foam stuffed under the seat for the moment.

I'm not sure exactly what model the car is, as the previous owner has peeled all the badges off.  I'll try and get to the v5 tonight and let you know.  It's a grey sort of coloured upholstery with little dark grey squares on, the driver's seat is electric for height but not the passenger one.  It's heated (which obviously doesn't work, though the passenger one does).  I can take a snap of the seat and attempt to upload it...

Thanks,

John.

Hello,

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, I'm really bad at navigating my way round forums I'm afraid. (Please can someone in charge put it in the right place??)

My driver's seat squab is collapsing badly, and is hideously uncomfortable.  I'm not sure whether to try swapping the cushion out for the passenger one, or whether there's another car in Vauxhall's range that I would be able to find a compatible cushion from the breakers?  I'm reckoning my chances of finding an omega are really slim.  Does anyone know?

Or does anyone on here  have a spare seat available?

Thanks,

John

Omega General Help / Strut Top Mounts
« on: 02 April 2020, 10:26:40 »
OK,

So with cabin fever setting in, I'm planning to fit the new wishbones I bought. I was advised by an ex cabbie, who had a couple of omegas back in the day, that its worth doing the top mounts at the same time, especially as mine were creaking and groaning a few months ago.

I've had a bit of a look through the forum posts, but I'm not that good with forums at the best of times.  Is there a guide on here anywhere for replacing the mounts, or does anyone know the procedure?

Many thanks in advance,

John.
