I've got 2 25 litre drums of used oil in the garage if you're interested?

Would save me taking it to the tip ;D

Thanks for that all.Very true it is depressing and that was with a very light right foot. Not bad as there was some town driving too. :y.

Would that seem right for a 3.2?.

It must have been with a very light right foot indeed!
There's certainly no problem there.

I have achieved 36 MPG before, but that's including nothing more than accelerating down a slip road onto a motorway, cruising at 70 for a few hours and exiting a slip road into another services.

As soon as you start adding any urban driving the average takes a dive.

20 quids worth at 1.09:  20/1.09 = 18.35 litres
18.35/4.54 = 4.04 gallons
130/4.04 = 32.18 MPG

 :y

For accuracy, best bet is to brim the tank, reset the ODO, then drive for a couple of tanks, keeping the reciepts, then brim it again and work out the consumption over the whole lot.

... Or just don't do it cos it's too depressing.

If the seller described it as a 3 litre car, or it had markings to that effect, or the V5 describes it as such, and it wasn't pointed out to you that it's in fact got a 2.5 litre engine, you have been mis-sold.

As you've bought it from a trader you are legally entitled to some comeback. I'd call the trader and tell him you want to return the car for a full refund, and that you'll go to trading standards, the SMMT, the local press, etc. if you aren't satisfied.

Ahh, if it's 2.4G it's in the same band as wireless LAN, and with so many wireless routers around finding a quiet frequency could be a challenge.

As TB says, a wire is the best (and cheapest) solution unless it's impossible to achieve.

I use a "loft box" which pipes terrestrial, satellite and radio antenna signals down one wire to the lounge, through the set top box, PVR, etc. and back up. It also allows remote control signals to be sent down the coax from each extension.

... and then there are those who run around with Turbocharged Hayabusa engines. Quite how an engine that physically small and light can kick out 300 BHP boggles the mind.

If you don't like that idea you'll probably like this one instead: http://www.sevenbuilder.com/id/83/v8-caterham-rst-v8-in-a-seven/

The 2.0-litre RST-V8 engine is a lightweight, high-revving, 4 cam, 5 valve per cylinder all alloy V8, featuring bespoke components, with the exception of the cylinder head castings, which are basically modified production parts. The road version revs to 10,500rpm and the race version revs in excess of 12,500rpm, producing upwards of 380bhp. Maximum torque is around 190lbs/ft at 7,800rpm.

Hmm. flat plane 2.0 V8 that revs to 12k? :-*

Yep. we've got plenty to thank bike technology for.

Yep. Exactly. I would have put one in my Westfield if it wasn't for the fact that it gets so much road use.

Once you've got it rolling they're fantastic. People don't expect a road car to rev to 13k either, so you can play with them up to 6K and, when they think you've run out of revs, unleash the other 7K and disappear over the horizon!  ;D

However, first gear ends up a bit high, and the clutch a bit sharp and fragile so it's a nightmare in traffic, there are no truly reliable options for a reverse gear other than not having one and motorway cruising at 9K RPM is a tad tiring, so I went for a breathed-on car engine instead. Somewhere between the two extremes.

As you reduce the weight of a car, a car engine and gearbox in "normal" tune feels more and more mundane.

Nice donor engines for kit cars too. Free sequential gearbox with each one  :-*

Ooh. On second thoughts maybe the SAI pipework is still there. :-/

Unlikely to work without a vacuum supply!

SAI is gone as well. OK, no real problem but plenty of bodges there. Makes me wonder...

.. or they make their money from a markup on the parts so are reluctant to do a labour intensive job without adding an expensive part to the bill.

Either way, if the engine is running OK and just suffers from a leak, it won't be the oil pump itself.

What they meant is that there's a 50p seal gone somewhere near the oil pump so we'll change the 50 quid oil pump. >:(

Mine had a rattly lifter from cold when it had benefitted from 40k of VX 20k service intervals.

It's fine now it gets 4-6k oil changes.
