Dont get it with the XRi. they're not that fast and certainly not expensive to buy. Probably the fact that most sreowned by boy racers?
BTW, why are you changing your omega for obviously inferior cars? ::)

So, they'll insure you on a V6 Omega but not an XR3i?  :-?

I know what I would do more damage in!

They're a law unto themselves and deserve no loyalty. If you don't like what they quote vote with your feet, or play them off against each other if you can be bothered.

Cannot think why you would want to change to an Escort. Fine in their day but once they put FWD in them lost a lot of enjoyment for me. :o

Let the rest grow up and you grow old disgracefully in an Omega. ;D ;D

they'll go off all kinds of statistics these days, they'll consider your age even though you've had an xr3i before, your postcode, they're also considering that amongst the "youth" it was a highly desirable car in its day and to be honest, moreso now as they're becoming more rare, and I have to say, a well looked after example is a beautiful thing! not to mention the fact they're so easy to steal (not that i'd know)

i'm shocked you havent found a company that will insure you though

Insurance quotes are also based on how likely your car is to be nicked by the 12 year old joyriders, are we aloud to give links out? well try these : www.adrianflux.co.uk they only charged me £383 full comp on a corrado G60 when I was 23, now I pay £347 for the MV6 full comp - never made a claim yet, but nice people to speak to  :y

Well when they were newer they tended to attract a nobend element, mind you so did a few other hatches.

But didn't seem popular with enthusiasts

One of my lodgers used to have an XR3i which she let me use when my car was in bits.  Erratic handling (like all Escorts) and an unimpressive engine made it a bit naff imho...

:(Even with low mls 3i's have vague gearchanges, indifferent handling & no real grunt. Sorry.
However the early (carb) XR felt punchier and you could "feel" the car, but try and find one.
Adrian Flux will give a fair quote on any car to draw you in but beware.
Wo'nt go into details but i ended up paying a premium for nothing, so read the small print.  >:(

Been with em for 5 years now, over them 5 years cars have got more powerful and expensive, but premium has fallen, never risen so keeps me happy as larry  :P  never had problems, but then never had an accident, fingers crossed and touching wood i'll have many more years accident free, only 'premium' I can see in contract is the excess (£250) - windscreen is fully covered, no excess so suits me.
I had a go in a friends XR3i many years ago, before I had my licence and I snapped his handbrake cable  ;D he said pull it up, I nearly pulled it out, i'd never buy one though, but its everyone to there own I suppose, I get jibes and taunts from my friends now for having an omega, but I love it to death, definatly the best car i've owned so far by miles, even tho it given me some niggles her and there  8-)
I'll sit down now, feel free to slap me for waffling  :-X
