Quick xenon Question
« on: 17 November 2006, 00:35:15 »

Hi Guys

I'm trying to find my way around my new facelift motor. Dont have Xenon's on old Omega which had an adjustment wheel to alter the level manually.

1. Apart from the obvious ie the beam seems in the correct place, how can you tell if they are leveling or adjusting correctly?

2. Is it normal for them to wobble a little when you go over a pot hole?

Any advice would be appreciated, just a bit concerned, I cant see anything happening, after having full control on my pre facelift gls.

HID have AUTO level adjusters. A bit like having PRND321 on the gearbox - why do it yourself if it'll do it itself!  ;)

Yes, headlamps have self levelling. If the levelling fails, you will get error on MID.

Haven't noticed any 'wobble' on mine, but then with prefacelift mv6 wheels, you quickly learn to avoid potholes at £236.01 per wheel.  Are the headlights mounted firmly?

Am I right to think you now have xenons but they wobble well worth checking to see if the lower piece of the silver insert moves it could be the motor has become unclipped causing it to flop about.

I should think they are a similar design across the board but obviously yours are self adjusting.

The Xenons on my facelift do the same when going over big bumps, the light seems to 'shudder' a bit.

Cheers Jay W, I was thinking I had a problem.

Its only a little wobble when you hit a bump or when the car side steps a bit when you do, got no weight in it yet  :y Just a slight shudder is a good discription of it.

When you turn the lights on they will move up slightly aswell as going from blue to white, if you park infront of a wall this will be more obvious

The self levelling works almost instantly when breaking and accellerating so chances are lights are moving through suspension 'wobble'

Alternatively take the nearside wheel off, pop off the tie bar to the self levelling switch, turn on the lights and lift it up and down, the lights will move almost instantly

Note also that they are HID's (High Intensity Discharge) and not just Xenon (which is only an inert gas and can be added to ordinary halogen bulbs)......sorry, geek comment over!

Just to add my xenons shudder when going over bumps in the road, I mostly notice it from the left hand side.

They also dont move when turing on, but have seen them move down when parking on a hill near a wall, someone also commented that you should see the lights move if you turn them on then start the car, mine dont move at all, so I am wondering if my motors could do with cleaning.

Is it easy to get to the mechanism to clean them up?

mmmmm :-/

Wonder why they would move when you park on a hill?

I really would like to understand how they work. Just the fact they are automatic and they work is frustrating.

Any 'Gods sorry, Knights' out there can explain to us poor mortals? :y

Very rarely do mine move when starting the car (on either the facelift or mini facelift), in fact I have only seen it happen once.

The easiest way to test them is to aim tham at a wall and stand in the boot.....

No Mark, the easiest way to test them is to sit in car and exercise them with a Tech2  ;)
