You can only get the late model backplates now.
24436738 LH Back Plate
24428129 Gasket
24445691 Cover

24436739 RH Back Plate
24428129 Gasket
24445691 Cover

Gasket and cover are required when putting late back plates on early cars

Correct way to replace is to drop the drive shaft undo the big retaining nut, push the hub out of the bearing, replace back plate.
Somebody here may know a "cheats" way

You wil also need a brake shoe fitting kit

too make the job 10 times easier cheat and slice the backing plate at its thinnest point, open it up, slide it round the shaft and bolt it on, the slice is not worth worry ing about as where u slice it is near a bolt hole which holds it all in place when fitted to the car :D

has any one got any second hand early ones that are in good nick of a breaker? saves me buying all the gaskets etc i dont mind if they have been neatly cut and bent of to save time just i believe my rear shoes have come un attached from the backing plate since i did the rear shoes (they looked a bit suspect when i did them but they held the shoes in place at the time so didnt worry also i didnt have the time to get some replacements)
