Whoever installs them would be guilty of criminal damage.

If used, these open some big cans of worms.

Be easier with a tin opener, though. ;)

Presumably they won't fit them where there are dropped curbs, so wouldn't you just cross onto / off the pavement there when parking?

How so? Assuming they are appropriately signed etc they are Surely no different to someone installing a bollard at the edge of the pavement. If you drove into one of those and damaged your car, you could hardly accuse the council of criminal damage could you?

That said I think there should probably be a bit more “spring” in the rubber bit - to avoid deflating pedestrians, dogs and other pavement users as DG points out.

Trouble is though, on most estates these days, if everybody parked correctly at the kerb, there wouldn't be room between parked cars to drive passed them .... especially in a larger van. Things like the bin wagon had have no chance. But you do get some clowns that park so far onto the pavement that you struggle to walk passed let alone get a pram or wheelchair through.

Cars are only for the rich, Andy, so if you live somewhere you can't park off-road, the government will simply take your car off you ;) </tinfoilhat>

Once they've banned the internal combustion engine, and electricity has soared in price due to lack of supply, we'll all be priced out of the market anyway. Those cars that do exist will have been dumbed down to "johnny Cab" level and it'll tell you "I'm not authorised to park here. Please select another destination". ::)

Dignitas will probably be the best option! ;D

So poor little Johnny falls off his push bike and hits his head on one of these, not gonna end well if it`s capable of puncturing a tyre  :-\

There is absolutely no chance of these things ever seeing the light of day. Just a mad inventor playing in his workshop.

I think the idea is that it'll need the weight of a car to expose the spike.  ;)

There is absolutely no chance of these things ever seeing the light of day. Just a mad inventor smoking too much weed in his workshop.

FTFY and yes you're right.  No council will go anywhere near this.  ::)

What we actually need is PLAY streets.

On our Cul de Sac, I'm the only one that doesn't park 1/2 on the pavement and won't double park, because the pavements are narrow and you have to leave room for a fire engine.

If this means I have to park 100 yards from the house then so be it.

Where the main road through Sandhurst is very busy and relatively narrow with narrow pavements in places it is not unusual for cars and especially vans and lorries to pull as far as possible onto the payment so you can't get past as the only three crossing points are about 0.25 miles apart, you have to be prepared to take your life into your hand by walking on the road dodging constant traffic. >:( >:( >:(

Sandhurst has several blind people who like to walk on the pavements and it causes an unexpected hazard for them along with the local oik kids abandoning their bicycles completely across the pavement as they go into the local fast food outlet Herpies for a dose of whatever fat and connective tissue they desire. >:( >:( >:(
