When changing the C/L ECU,do you need to change the ignition barrel as well? tia :y

No, but it will need recoding to the car...

Has the car in question ever had a check strap weld repair to the A post?

If yes, then it's as likely to be a wiring issue...

Either way, there's a couple of steps before blindly swapping the ecu out ;)

Either the loom is damaged or it's not plugged in correctly.

Looks OK plug wise,but you could well be right on the loom damage....looks like a trip up to Huntingdon for a bit of probing. :o
