Air pressurising/escaping noise on dash control
« on: 12 July 2006, 13:06:51 »

Firstly:
1997 2.5 V6 CD w/ A/C

When I turn the switch on the dash to redirect the flow of air (i.e. from "face" to "feet") the distinct noise of air pressurising/escaping is heard.  Is this a common ommy issue? Should I be concerned?

If required I can post up a video with sound showing this.

I believe it is linked to my multirams playing up (maybe more on this later!)...

Cheers.

Sounds like you may have a vacuum leak.

Mines got climate, so I have little experience of your heating controls. Sorry.

If its not climate then this is correct operation.

The system on these uses a valve assembly (i.e. the direction control switch) which directs vaccum from the engine bay vac reservoir to the vaccum actuators, when you turn the switch the appropriate actuators are selected and those that are not required are disconnected and air at atmospheric pressure is let in (and hence the hiss noise).

Its actauly a good sign as it means you have good engine vaccum getting to the system.

I assume it directs the air as expected, if so then all is good!

Have fun there - I used to be able to get decent free hospitality tickets, courtesy of a contact of my brother, and it isn't that far from me. Alas, he can't get the tickets this year though :(

Local TV news here is reporting on a Harrier that was on its way to RIAT has just crashed, seemingly no major injuries :) - hope this won't spoil your enjoyment of the Tattoo
