just a thought i have hid, on the near side front wishbone at the back of the arm, i have a little arm, which goes to a sensor, i assume this is something to do with knowing the height of the front of the car. so could be connected.

Correct, but there are always default settings that the lights would adjust to in lieu of corrects positions from the sensors....
