Hi guys,

I am looking for a new car as my tractor was written off as a CAT B, all because of it's value 3 weeks ago. I've been looking at a 2000 model 2.5 diesel automatic on the Auto Trader for £1599 and the best price the deal can reduce it to is £1500. Is it worth the money, as it has 70K on the clock and full service history.
I've also seen a 2000 MV6 3.0 for £995 on Auto trader with 77k on the clock ,but this one has 3 owners and part service history.

Which is the best of the 2? Even though I like the MV6, I don't want the hastle of worrying about when the cambelt was last changed.

The 3.0 will be better, the 2.5td/auto combo isn't a good one

Besides, the £600 saving will go along way to cambelt change/sorting niggles on the 3.0

Mv6 sounds far far better too . As said the money saved is easy enough to have the Campbeltown done and good service etc. well even have some left over for a good few tanks of fuel

I wouldn't mind the MV6 at all, but the fuel consumption figures put you off when compared to a diesel. I did a return trip from London to Newquay once in a manual diesel on a full tank. Can the same be said for the petrol version. Another option would be to fit the manual gearbox from the diesel to the MV6, has anyone tried that before. Is the bell housing/bolt pattern the same?

If you still have your old manual diesel, then buy the diese auto and swap all the gubbins over

I always buy my Omegas on e-bay, as older members of my fleet die. I reckon to pay about £500 for a 2.2 or 2.6 manual. I get them home, inspect them, and change cam belts and anything else that needs doing. I have learned to avoid cars from coastal homes because they tend to be rusty.  Cost of collection must be considered too. I once bought a car from Hartlepool which cost £200 to collect.

I love mine, chipped with an AR35 box. I've had it 15 years now. I also have a 3.2 Elite.

Anyway, buy the one you like better but have in mind that there are more petrol enthusiasts than diesel on this site. Good luck.
