The latest outrage
« on: 06 November 2018, 18:59:16 »

Having just seen the news about the latest Grenfell outrage...

...the incident was in extremely poor taste, but arresting 5 people is a bit extreme, isn't it?

Good job it wasnt Luther doing the arresting.

Three people would have been dead including his own wife.

One the one hand it could be argued that they should be arrested and culled for not only being stupid enough to do it, but also for filming it and uploading it to so shall meeja.
On the other hand there have been quite a few examples of effigies of Boris Johnson, Thatcher and others being burnt without anyone getting outraged.
Bottom line is, they apparently made anti muslim comments on the video, so will be done for a religious hatred offence.

Can you now be arrested for extreme bad taste? But yes, what a bunch of knobs.

Five working class white blokes arrested for celebrating Bonfire Night...*

Not sure how you can commit a public order offence in your back garden, at night :-\

*perhaps the least appropriate choice of effigy.

Dave. Of course you are quite right. It was tongue in cheek.

Making fun of the deaths of 79 people was a disgraceful and disgusting thing to do.  >:(  However they did it in the supposed privacy of their back garden and had they not idiotically uploaded the video to the internet, nobody would have known.   ::)

Whether a crime has been committed or not seems uncertain, but the authorities will find something to charge them with to make an example of them and to appease the outraged!

Luckily, they have handed themselves in to the police otherwise I'm sure the Met would have allocated huge (scarce) resources into tracking them down.  ::)

It wasn't funny and it wasn't clever. Neither was it worthy of a lengthy slot on the prime time news.

Extreme bad taste and utterly stupid in loading it onto the internet but I also felt a bit uncomfortable about the repeated outpouring of media sympathy and outrage .

If there is anything more than a fine and warning here then it will be a disgrace .

I was in my local on Sunday night and as usual was being grilled about Brexit. One oppswit vociferously remarked that " in 20 years you Brits will bitterly regret Brexit " .
( I have translated what he mumbled in Kerrytone to English  so you can understand what he was saying.......)

It went right over his simple backcountry empty head when I said that in 20 years time Brexit will be the least of Britains regrets .

An abhorrent act, without doubt, but one which caused no harm other than the obvious offence and the self-defamation of those who participated.

I only hope those whose incompetence caused the real Grenfell tower to be maintained in such a dangerous state are pursued with the same vigour by the legal system. ::)

Exactly, Kevin; thanks for putting things in perspective. I never saw the news item and know only what I gather from this Forum, but it seems like the snowflakes and professional "offendeds" came out in force over a trivial - and private - incident?
