Omega General Help / Cambelt - Crank-Lock Tool query
« on: 10 April 2009, 21:52:26 »
started doing cambelt this afternoon (late start due to guiness)

When you locate the crank lock tool on to the water pump does it sit on the flats or the round bit? Reason i ask is the tool i hired from autovaux doesn't quite want to sit nicely :-/

cam timing gauge fits fine and the camlock keys fit in nicely but just wanted to make sure i'm bang on TDC for my piece of mind when i continue in the morning ;)

Omega General Help / Cambelt Kit - Engine Number query
« on: 05 April 2009, 21:05:31 »
Planning on doing my Cambelt very soon so have been out to check engine number to make sure I get the right one.

Number is on the block by oilfilter and i couldn.t be bothered to get on my hands and knees ::) but luckily i noticed a sticker with a barcode on the timing belt cover which reads 08206984: the engine number ha ha. (as long as nobody has replaced the cover :-/)

anyway if i trust that number (does make sense for an early '97R x30xe) can i still use a 9120501 Kit:

or do i have to use the newer 93188674 kit?:

Omega General Help / New doors - fitting and bits needed
« on: 09 March 2009, 23:03:38 »
My rear doors are getting terrible around the arch and the wife is nagging me to tidy it up :-[

Seen some on ebay which are from a facelift but pressume they're the same shape (off a V plate saloon)?

what parts can i transfer from my doors and what will i need to replace new i.e. those bloody side trims that bend and never fit again?

Is it a hard job to transfer glass and associated rubber trim / seals as these doors are just the bare metal (and some paint)?

cheers guys (keep her off my back please ;)) :y

Omega General Help / Cam Cover Gasket Update - Photos
« on: 16 February 2009, 21:53:23 »
Just thought I'd share a couple of pics i took of my camgasket change.

I knew that they were leaking on the outside because of the smoke pouring off the exhaust manifolds but as for the gasket to the spark plug-well side you can't really tell without puling HT leads which is a bit tricky on the passenger side.

Have a look at these and ask yourself "do i really need to change those gaskets?!"

Drivers side:

Now for the passengers side...

Omega General Help / V6 Cam gasket kit
« on: 11 February 2009, 19:23:41 »
Bought the cam cover gasket kit from the oof shop :y

Kit doesn't come with all the gaskets mentioned in Mdtm's guide, so am i to assume that the 3 missing items are not to be replaced but refitted? :-?

Inlet Bridge to head 90501652 2off
Inlet to inlet Bridge  90501653 3off
Inlet to Plenum O rings 9118135 6off

Or do i need to source these myself from local stealer? and if so how much are they?

cheers guys :y

Omega General Help / Breather clean
« on: 13 February 2009, 20:46:10 »
Planning to do breathers and cam cover gaskets tomorrow quick question:

If i squirt carb cleaner into the vent housing (D) on the block Ron recommends changing the oil straight away, do you think it's ok to run the oil up to temp for 10 mins to aid draining or will the carb cleaner dillute enough to cause bearing damage? :-/

Omega General Help / Miss-fire
« on: 07 February 2009, 14:40:35 »
Been for a bit of a blast (high rpm) and when i pulled up at the lights noticed a bit of a missfire :-/

There was smoke coming out of bonnet (drivers side) but that isn't unusual because the camcover gaskets have been leaking for a while :-[

I'm guessing that the 'spirited' drive has put increased pressure on the breathers and blown more than normal oil out which has subsequently caused oil in plug wells and hence the missfire??

Am i barking up the wrong tree or can a sudden missfire like this occur? :-/

Did a paperclip test and only got 31 (No RPM) but the engine wasn't running.

any advice much appreciated guys :y
