Omega General Help / ABS 'not working'
« on: 23 October 2010, 16:59:32 »
Hello all,

Have a friend interested in an Omega. Knowing I'm a bit handy with them, he's brought me in as a second opinion. Spoken to the owner who stated all's well with it except the ''ABS doesn't work'' so
-Fuse, (2 second fix)
-ABS ECU stuffed, (possible hundreds to spend at Stealer)
-ABS sensor, (2 mins in a scrappy, minimal cost.)

Can I just have a confirmation my thinking's right; have I missed anything, and what's the most likely cause?

Many thanks in advance, you very lovely people.

Yes, compared to a well sorted 200sx an Omega is going to be.... 'different'!!!

Sounds like water in the cylinders, and water in the oil ie: you've a gasket gone. Treat with extreme care, as you dont want to foul the engine up any more. They're study engines, and after an experienced mechanic's been over it (if it is a gasket, I may be wrong, of course) done the gasket and replaced the oil you should be ok, with no lasting damage- Fingers crossed. Keep us posted with your progress! DBG

Yes, suspected the cheesewire would be necessary. Just didnt know if there were nuts to remove from the threads. Got an old Cavalier SRi spoiler, which is held on with threads.

Omega General Help / Facelift Spoiler!
« on: 06 January 2010, 18:10:24 »
Ha! Got your attention!

Sorry, not got one for sale, I may be going to view a breaker in a few days time, and wondered how the spoiler comes off. The guys saying it seems 'stuck to the bootlid' (what did he expect, I wonder?) anyway, just wondered exactly how they come off. Can I assume that theres some stickyfoam pads and some nuts to come off inside the bootlid?

Id just like to know before I get there and find I dont have the necessary tools to get the thing off. I'll gladly resort to chewing a facelift spoiler off, trust me!

All help, as ever greatly appreciated.

Omega General Help / Re: mini facelift front door
« on: 02 January 2010, 22:13:23 »
Theres a Diamond Black door in my local scrappy. Cant say for certain the condition (i was going to replace a front wing, mines scratched, only to find when i got back someone had knackered the one in the scrappy, ah well!)

I can always have a look, Manc's not stupidly far away from me, though I can appreciate you may want to find a nearer door..

Omega General Help / Re: Omega's been off the road for a while

Dont be intimidated by all the Elites, MV6s and CDXs on this forum, we dont discriminate, and a 'lowly' 2.0 ECOTEC is still one of the best, most-used and reliable engines Vauxhall ever made. Yes, you could have more spec, more power, or more economy, but it's up to you, ultimately.

This Omega sounds like a fine workhorse to me, though not sure which would work out cheaper - New keys/ etc from VX, or complete new locks inc keys from a breaker / oofer?

Just check that underneath theres not obvious expensive work, as its been standing, all you need is a couple of wishbones, drop links, corroded brake lines and some welding work needed to pass mot, and you've exceeded the cars value just to get it on the road.

Personally id throw a few quid at it, have a play, and even if you only get a few months fun out of it, then it's got to be considered worth it! WHo knows, maybe it'll lead onto a bigger and better Omega?

Omega General Help / Electric Chair!!!
« on: 03 January 2010, 01:08:43 »
Hey all.

Only blessed with electric height adjustment on the V6's seats, manual all other directions; but just wondered if I could 'merge' the upper of a velour seat to the electric bits of an electric seat together.

I refer to the comment here made by the lovely Black Beauty
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1261920588
about the electric runners, sounds like it's removable from the rest of the seat.

As I say, can you cannabalise a knackered, torn leather seat's electric workings and install them in a velour seat?

Much appreciation in advance!

And the inst. cons. figure will just depress you, especially off traffic lights! At least the av. consumption is just that, average since last reset.

Mpg figures sounds a little lower than mine, though.

Omega General Help / Re: heater control knobs...
« on: 01 January 2010, 23:10:57 »
Yep, it can cope excellent, Ive always found. Fairly sophisticated bit of kit, when you delve into the AC/CC system.

And the drivers side knob also controls the rear vents.

Actually I always found this a bit strange, as if theres the driver, and a rear passenger (bear in mind how many Omegas are taxis) then the rear passengers stuck with whatever temp the driver wants it to be. How much nicer 'twould be if you could use the front passengers control to alter the rear vents also.

Im not trying to nudge this off topic, but id love to know if theres a way of doing this,  think it would be a real improvement.

Omega General Help / Re: front wishbone bushes
« on: 29 December 2009, 01:58:50 »
Yep, as said, dont bother replacing just the bushes. Personally decent aftermarket have never let me down, think around the 40 quid mark is the most ive seen paid. The drop links i think arent unreasonable from a dealer, so the V6 has genuine vx droplinks on at present, and 'rubbish' (though never had a bad experience yet) aftermarket wishbones.

hohoho

Monaros use BMW PCD, sadly, (as this was always my idea, putting Monaro wheels on)..... I assume Holden use the same the PCD on the new VXR8 model, too.
