Fitting Vectra Cam covers to a Omega 2.5 v6
« on: 22 September 2007, 14:18:08 »

Got some metal cam covers for my x25xe engine,
Wondering if they require vectra gaskets or do the omega ones fit both.
Also heard the need for the oil filler to be adjusted in some way.
Did check the maint guide and couldnt find anything, does any one whos done this before have any advice??

cheers

There is no mod that i know of for the filler, its just that you will have to use a flexi funnel in order to fill the oil.

you will also require vectra cover seals, these are better than the omega ones.

veccy seals and a decent funnel to fill.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do keep the breather system clear.  On an Omega, restricted breather blow the cam gaskets - no big deal.  On the Vectra, due to the strong cam gaskets, they blow the crank seal instead - that is a ping of a job, and the reason I never recommend veccy cam covers...

Thanks for the heads up might look at the plasic ones to see if they are warped if not will carry on with them.

Just a quick question what sort of driving helps to keep the breathers clear?

I wouldn't of thought stop start, but does long motorway help or make no difference?

Change your oil very frequently, more frequently than that recommended by the service manual.

Also, clean out the breathers at least once a year.

Yeah change oil about every 5,000 miles going to give the breathers a good going over as aswell when i sort the gaskets.

Does any one know where i can find genuine omega gaskets on the internet as ebay is letting me down.

Only ask as in germany went to the opel garage and he wanted 128 euros :o :o for one side and in the uk last time i changed them they cost about £50 for both sides if i remember correctly, im sure as he didnt speek good english he was trying to rip me off.

Genuine Omega gaskets are about £25 per side trade price. Make sure you get a two pairs of gaskets. The part number is for one pair. Vx tried to give me just two gaskets for £50......

Vectra covers need to be reversed so the oil filler cap is on the other bank and ends up at the back near the brake fluid resevoir - otherwise you can't fill the oil at all.

I find that long journeys clear all the mayonaise from the filler cap and keep the breathers clean. I do a long commute and my breathers haven't clogged up in 30k miles. (I do change the oil every 5k miles as well and use decent synthetic or semi-synthetic oil too.)

I suspect it's pretty much short journeys that clog the breathers.
