Well, slapped some new bearings, drum spider and element in the old Zanussi last night. Will be back in action tonight with a bit of luck. :D

I'm a firm believer that all "white goods" are designed to have a life expectancy of around five years, even "quality" brands like Bosch.  >:(
Sssshhh, don't let my dishwasher hear that.

Oh, I forgot, its cheap shite (hotpoint) ;D

Who make the dishwashers for........Bosch  ;D ;D ;D

Aye. In fact when I bought this one, there was a Bosch next to it, only difference was the badge and the cutlery tray.  The Hotpoint won because I could take it away the same day.

Blimey, has it really been this long that my mums old washing machine has been sitting in her garage  ::)  ;D

Anyway I got around to replacing the heater element this afternoon...

It was so lime scaled up when I took it out.....obviously my mum hasn't been using the Calgon tabs that were sat on the top of machine when it was replaced  ::)

I tested the old element, sort of, as I don't have a mega....I used my multimeter in ohms (diode mode) which I think puts a few more volts down the probes....less than 2ohms between live and earth  .... new element read open circuit.

Well worth doing, as long it has fixed it and also doesn't now leak, as I took it apart and rebuilt it  ::) ;D
(Front side of the machine had to come off to get to the element)

£10 odd for a new element  :y :)

I wonder how long it will take for the machine to move from my mums garage to my kitchen  ::) ;D

It moved today  :y

Now installed in my kitchen....

Put some Dr Beckmanns Washing Machine Cleaner thro it at 60C ....spose to get rid of limescale and grunge....

Now it doing another wash with Dr Beckmanns deep clean....at 90C which is spose to kill 99.9% of germs

Worth doing I think seeing as how long its sat and it proves the heater I replaced is working and no leaks after I repaired it  :y ;D
