As some of you may know, my other car is a MK3 Cavalier - one of the lasy being a 1995 model.  It is a 2.0 16V CDX and I have owned it for 9 years.  Everything still works AC included!  The Omega was meant to be a replacement, but I did not have the heart to sell it.

My Technics is a 5 disc which is fine.  I do not want one of those 100 juke box things. Other than these, I cannot find any multiplayers of note.  When What HiFi was a decent mag that would have been my first avenue of research.

Price range is between £200 - 400.  Although I currenty have a technics, I was going to use this as an opportunity to get something better.  I know that NAD and Karmon Kardon (possible spelling error there!) used to do them, but no longer.  I have heard that marantz also do them but would think twice about this due to the Phillips origins (I do not like Phillips).

There is no decent HiFi shop nearby.  I went to one in Watford (not too far away) and they were pretty much laughing, so I walked out!

Your VCR collection is impressive - I would, some day, like to acquire a Beta.  What is even more impressive is your NiCAM conversion!

Never really used my 950 for hard editing as about a year after I had it I moved into the Mini DV relm and with it into Adobe Premire.  Now I distribute on DVD which means I hardly ever (if at all) use the VCRs.

Since this thread has gone slightly AV thought I would add and ask at the same time!

I agree about VCRs.  Being into video editing, I also agree about the Sony video cameras.  I have 5 VCRs, three of which are Panasonic.  1 is the old "drawbridge" type an NV-F70, purchased seconhand, another is the HD100 and the third is a HS950 which is super VHS format.  All of these are editing decks and have been (are) great.  There is, though, one thing that lets them all down - they are VHS!!

I have the DCRVX2000E video camera and this is also great - picture quality is suberb, being a 3 chip camera.

Like you Martin, I go for HiFi Seperates rather than all in one.  Now you may frown on this, but I am currently after a CD multiplayer as my Technics has started to skip.  Do you have any recommendations?

I find cruise great in situations such as this.

I generally set it a couple of MPH below the limit.  I find that you still have to watch when descending inclines though as the speed tends to creep up.

I apologise - I thought you were talking about those roadside cameras that are TOTALLY blue!  My Apologies.  Cheers for the warning about the high up ones.

Yes, I have also seen the Turevelo is some spots and spotted the two white lines on teh road surface.

Average Speed cameras are the ones to be cautious of.

M25 cameras are between junctions 17 and 18.

Whever, these are not safety cameras as described with the possible exception of motorway road works ones.  If they were trying to advocate safety, there would be cameras outside every school, nursey college etc.

Sorry, but the cameras coloured blue simply monitor traffic flow.  Traffic master and other traffic systems use them and the information they generate for their traffic reports....  They are coloured blue in order to distinguish them from the speed cameras.

However, there is a new type of digital camera around they are mounted on a taller pole than the Gatso and these are digital, sending the images via an ADSL connection.

May I recommend the excellent cam belt video that is available on here?  Having viewed this, I can confirm that it really is easier than you first think. I fought shy of this and got it done by the dealer >:(  Worst luck the dvd was not out then. :(  Worst still I asked for the old parts and they looked to have been fitted just prior to when I purchased the car. :(

Still, peace of mind counts for a lot.

Nice guide Tunnie and more great pics particularly of the jacking procedure!  :)

Not being picky but you have not mentioned the need to warm the oil up to operating temperature before embarking.  I guess that most people on here know this already but for completeness...............

Also, the 2.0 engine takes 4.0 Litres including filter change - well it does in my Cavalier (2.0 16V).  Thinking about this though, there may be extra capacity in the Omega owing to the oil cooler so 4.5 could be correct.

I would also add the need to wear latex gloves whilst doing this - oil is carconegenic and you do not really want it all over your hands!  Plus, it takes ages to remove without Swafega et al!

On the 2.0 and 2.2 engines, you can fill the oil filter completly as it is virtually vertical.  V6 is horizontal so a half fill is about all you can do.  I always fill the filter with the new oil at the start of the process as the paper element soaks the oil up.  Then I fill the filter again just prior to fitment.  This works well and results in the oil pressure light switching off virtually immediatly following start up.

Whilst the old oil is draining out and has reached a trickle, I always put a bit of fresh oil in without the sump plug on.  This ensures that, as far as possible, the old oil is drained completly.

The new filter only needs to be done up hand tight.  I generally wait until it becomes tight and then tighten another quarter of a turn.  Similarly, sump plug does not need to be done up tight - I screw it in by hand until tight, and then nip it up with my socket.

Finally, I change my oil every 3K or around 3 - 4 months.

I hope nobody takes offence at any of this - these are just the things that I do when I change oil.  If I have, then I apologise. ;)
