Hi,

That looks VERY nice indeed.  You will get superb results with that cam mate.  Out of interest, what did you pay?

I have always fancied a shoulder mount cam but never been able to afford or justify.

OK

I agree with Ronnie - forget about DVD cams.  Mini DV is the way to go and Ronnie's recommendation of the Canon XL1 is right.  Personally, I have the Sony equilavent the DCRVX2000E.  This is also a 3 chip camera and the results are simply superb.  3 Chip means there is one imaging chip in the camera for Red, Green and Blue.

You can obtain software from the likes of Pinnicle that will edit the footage and you can make a DVD from there.  The results will be a whole lot better.  Personally, I use Adobe Premire Pro but this is on a different level.

At the end of the day it depends upon what you want to do with the footage you shoot.  If you want to make videos that have high quality pictures and you want to sell / distribute then this is the route to take.  If, however, you only want to shoot the occasional holiday for example and want to show to friends, then the DVD option is OK.

What ever you get, don't be sucked in by the gimicks like 100x digital zoom, endless dissolves and fades (you can do this at the editing stage) dolby surround (how can a mic on a camera be surround sound?) etc.  What you do want is a proper manual focus ring (preferably a zoom ring as well although hardly any camers have these now) control over white balance, back light facility etc.

Finally, I have found my Sony cam to be excellent.  The results from this semi pro unit are superb and it looks the part when filming weadings etc.  I have the extended info lithum battery and this powers the cam for an entire day and evening.

Sorry if I rambled a bit and I hope this helps.

Autoglym for me but I use the new polish for modern paints.  Must say, excellent results with both the Megga and Cav.

Hi

The Simens Simtec is definetly the 56.1 (the earlier version) and either 56.4 or 56.6 for the later version.  Either way Simtec 70 / 90 is incorrect - at least for the Vauxhall fitment.  I have the 56.1 in my 1995 Cavalier.

I am afraid that I cannot help with editing the map for fueling - I am not into mods like this.  Would you gain any noticeable improvement though?  I would have thought that other areas would also require attention like the cams, engine breathing etc although you may well of course already have done this.

Hope the ECU info helps though.

Thanks for your input TD!

The cracks are around the filler neck on the bottle and the are certinally cracks.  You can feel that they are cracks when running a nail across them.

I will be fitting a new bottle for peace of mind apart from anything else.  Also, the old expansion tank is somewhat dirty so a new one will save having to clean it up and display my newly replaced coolant off to best effect!

Cheers.  I see that you are making good progress with Project A! ;)

Will post up more as work progresses.

Started work on my coolant change today, using Markjay's excellent write up [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Gave the bolts securing the undertray a good soaking in plus gas along with those that fix the radiator cover and went out to buy various bits like hose clips, drain bowl and some of Sainsbury's finest mineral water!

Got back home and removed undertray and radiator cover and located the rad drain tap.  All OK so far.

Removed the expansion tank cap and then noted a series of cracks following the neck of the tank. Bu**er!

Pictures show what I mean: (first attempt at posting a pic so hope it works!)

So, went to vaux (dealer only ½ mile up the road from me) to get a price.  £39 for a tank with sensor and in stock!  Why do that have that and not a brake light switch I wonder?

Anyway, I will be fitting a new tank as, whilst I am sure that this one will be OK for a while, I like to do things properly.  Will be phoning Autovaux on Monday to fit out their price.

Still, I was going to take the bottle of and use a bottle brush to clean it up - at least I will have a nice shiny new one now I suppose!

Looks VERY VERY nice indeed Laidback.  I agree with you about putting the proper Elite Seats in.

Good luck with the car - not that you have much to do by the looks of it!

Refitting the original ICE and not a Pioneer unit??!!  I am guessing that the BOSE set up it pretty (very) good anyway.

Thanks for the additional info Markjay.  I took the undertray off as I wanted to copper ease the bolts and make sure that I could undo them in my own time - i.e. not struggle later if time is an issue!

Like you, my coolant is clean - I was going to flush the rad, but on second inspection have decided against it.  I will simply do a quick change as you did.  I am only doing this as the antifreeze mixture is too low for my liking following work at the Vaux dealer.

I did think about the premixed coolant but, also like you, I prefer genuine Vaux fluids.

In spite of the cracked tank, I will do the first drain today.

Glad the pics turned out OK - I will take a few more as work progresses!

Thanks again

Hillper,

I know what you mean.  On the rare occasion that I drive to the supermarket (I usually walk unless buying lots of / heavy goods) I park the same as you and when returning to the car find exactly the same.

Annoying isn't it?

Yep,

Spot on everyone.  Let's keep it number 1!!!

Agreed - all MUCH more friendly and a nicer place to be.

Yep, I do like the look of it.

TBH looking for other bits as well as the alloys for example, switches, a few trim clips etc.  I am fortunate as my car is totally original right down to the battery cover!

If I come on Friday, I will let you know.
