Tick Tock!
« on: 07 April 2009, 20:33:48 »

My 3.0 V6 seems to have developed a noise which appears to be coming from the rear of the engine. The only way I can describe the noise is like an analogue clock ticking, it comes and goes but when it is there it is at regular intervals, say every second. It has only started in the last couple of days but it hasn't effected anything such as performance. :(

Any ideas? :-/

Does it only do it when cold? or all the time?
Is it RPM related?

No, it seems to be doing it all the time, as for relation to RPM, when there are more revs it drowns out the noise so not sure if it stops. It's only a faint noise you see.

Does it do it with the ignition on but the engine off?  I'm wondering if it's a relay of some sort, either one which is supposed to switch on and off every second (alarm sounder?) or one which is trying to latch and failing so keeps re-trying.

I stand corrected, it only seems to be doing it when cold as I had a listen tonight after a day out and couldn't hear it when the engine was hot.

Sounds feasable, but I torqued them up properly with new gaskets before putting the heads back on.  :(
