Title: Help and Advice Plug leads.
Post by: moggy on 14 April 2018, 10:37:12
Hi all, hope your all well.A couple of questions i would like to ask, first can anyone tell me the make or part number.I need for the plug leads on my 1995 3.0l omega, the reason for this is that when i recently visited Serek.I gave him a long list of jobs i wanted doing,he did them all bar the plug leads. As i was only with him for a set time he did not get round to them, because i needed the car to get back to Hartlepool. My second question is there any members within say 50 to 70 miles,of Hartlepool that could fit them for me.Serek said they need doing as the oil in the plug wells has fried them,i am willing to pay/help.If not its a trip back to Sereks place. Thanks Dean :y

Go to your local motor factor, and order a set, about £30.

Are there any reliable indy garages in your area that will fit them for you?

Do it yourself,. Remove 1 and replace 1, then no chances of mucking up, would think there's even a guide.

This is more or less what you need, just change one at a time you'll be fine  ...... it's just a bit of a reach to the back of the engine.

Yes definately do them youself to be sure that they are done right.unless you know of a garage that you can trust which sounds like you dont or see if any local members offer to help you if needed.

Changing HT leads is a straight forward job, the hard bit is getting to the DIS pack at the back of the engine.

To be fair ronnyd,i look at it like this.If you know fick all about brain surgery don't say you do and cut someones head open.I am not a mechanic, and this may be an easy job for someone with experience. But i don't have a clue where to start with this,i work in electronics so i am not thick. So i will leave it to someone who knows what they are doing, but if you feel the need to take the piss no problem.Dean.

You start at the DIS pack at back of the engine  ;)

Any garage would be able to swap them over for you  :y

Just think off it as a big electronic circuit, No1 lead goes to No1 plug.  It's just the wires are a bit bigger, also invest in a Haynes manual, and think of it as your circuit diagram.

Sorry Dean, i was only yankin ya chain a bit. Never meant to cause offence. As you, i don,t do  much of my repairs and, yes, get someone who knows more about it to do it. Cheers, Ron. :y

Hi all,no probs ronnyd.Unfortunately as there are no members up here to help me,i went to a garage one street away.Asked how much to change the leads, he did not look to enthusiastic.£200 not including vat or parts he would let me know the price of the parts. :o :o.He said there is a lot to come off to get to the coil pack.So it looks like it will be a trip to serek.

That garage obviously quoted you a silly price to get you to go away, as they didn't want/couldn't do the job.
I know Serek is quite a distance from you, but you will get a better-than-fair price for a competent and efficient job.  :y :y :y 8)

Like you, I have spent a lifetime in Electronics, but my mechanical expertise is limited to whatever I can hit with a hammer! However, I have watched James (V6CDX) remove my plenum and bits a couple of times, so I have a vague idea what is involved - not TOO daunting.
There is a guide in the maintenance section on here, so worth a try. If you decide to go for it, maybe you could phone james or somebody as you do it and get guided through the procedure?

Hi Keith, yes i did much appreciated. But they sound a tad expensive(as they are high speck)for my car. Also i still don't feel i have the confidence to do this myself,no one up here to help and the local garages taking the piss.To be honest its not the expense so much,as the inconvenience of driving 400 mile round trip. For what would be an hours work(for Serek)then driving back, having said that i am loathed to pay the extortionate quotes the garages up here want. :-\ .Dean.

Yes, them's a lot of miles, but it would be worth your while seeing what else needs to be done (cambelt, for example) and have them sorted expertly.
Serek will be happy to give your car a check for you and you will have great peace of mind knowing that everything works as it should.
Talk to him..... :y

Ron when i visited him not long ago,he did everything the car needed. But because of time constraints(mine)he could not do the leads as i needed the car.So thats why i am in this position.Dean.
