General Car Chat / My new car
« on: 27 August 2021, 03:55:05 »
So. I needed a new daily driver. The 3.2 MV6 isn't goingnto cut it with my new commute.
I only had 3 requirements, provided by all the stakeholders.
Auto. Cruise. And very low miles.
To this I added, not as slow as a mk6 1.6 automatic Astra. LAnd no rust. And comfy. And good cross country.
So eventually, I'm buying an automatic Astra.
A 1.4 turbo auto. 65 plate. SRI trim. Massive alloys. Half leather trim. Appliance white.
It's going to be funny. Wifes got a poverty spec 11 plate 1.6 auto Astra in piss green.

Y REG omega MV6

3.2 V6

Vague service history.

Short MOT.

It will need Wishbones for MOT.

It has a Stainless Jetex exhaust which is surprisingly quiet.

Is not currently leaking oil, or using coolant.

Had has in the last year. New Battery. New ancillary belt and tensioner.

Has Uniroyal rainsports all round.

Leather interior. With patina.

A.c. does not work.

Comes with the following in the boot

Crank sensor.

Other spares available at reasonable cost include.

Front discs, rear hand brake shoes, front pads.

PU front bushes

4 17 inch wheels.

A selection of cassette tapes.

Cam locking tool kit.

These things are about to hit classic status, but not at this mileage.

Can deliver North West or Midlands.

General Car Chat / Wh asts it really worth ?
« on: 02 June 2021, 19:02:01 »
Someone on another forum asked me whether I wanted to sell my Y REG 3.2 MV6 in petrol Blue.

What's it worth?
 My responce to him was

Okay, this is really hard, because if I did sell it, I'd forever regret it.

It's done 235k

I haven't looked at the advisories since the last MOT.

Service history is not particularly well documented. But it's been serviced with GM oil every 6K since I got it at 163k

But recent battery, stainless Jetex, gearbox oil and gearbox filter replaced about 1k ago.  Recent Uniroyal rainsports. Recent auxiliary belt tensioner and belt. It had 2 new coil packs about 3 years ago.  I did the oil filter mod- it has the oil filter from a 3.0 because the later alloy housing started leaking and it was easier to fit a can.

Probably will need some brake pipes, maybe a wishbone or 2 (they eat them for fun.)

Basically, it stops braking in a straight line, before you realise.  I have a set of PU bushes to go on with the next wishbones.  They weren't cheap to be fair.

It's 3 years and 40k since it had a cam belt. Probably should have another.  There's lots of space at the front and I have the locking tool kit which I'd throw in.

There's an oily fumes smell. Think the rocker gaskets have probably gone. I keep the crank case breathers clear, which is what causes them to fail.

Aircon doesn't.

Interior is okay for its miles. Won't win any awards. But leather and heated front seats. The 4 disc CD changer is stuck and has 4 discs. I use the tape player with an adaptor to my phone and play from that. (Radio works).

It had a new screen about 2 years ago and a new radiator.

A previous owner removed the power sounder, as a precaution, because they burst into flames.

It's capable of very high speeds if you don't value your licence.

Spares which I'd throw in the boot.

Camlock tools

4 x 17 inch alloys

PU bushes

Front discs,

rear hand brake shoes.

Front caliper rebuild kit

Original middle exhaust section

Bosch Crank sensor. (They fail for fun, so it stays in the boot just in case)

How to price it?  £3k gets a low mileage one.
How about £1800 to put to my Monaro find.

General Car Chat / Massive discounts at autovaux

They keep sending me emails about discounts, so i thought I'd price up wishbones in their 55% off sale.

Omega General Help / Cheapest way to fix my 3.2 exhaust.
« on: 26 July 2020, 06:35:00 »
So, my whole system is fairly rusty, with a holes developing on down pipe on passenger side, probably near the pre cat.

The back box is falling apart.

So whilst a member just across the Mersey is selling a CAT back Jetex, I'd still need to sort out the CATs, and to be fair, I can't justify the cost of even a second hand stainless system.

I digress.  The cost of a 3.0 down pipe and Cat is very much less than the cost of a 3.2 system.

So based on this thread, I conclude that I could fit a 3.0 Cat:

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90613.0

Is that right ?

If it is I think I've worked out the cheapest 3 combinations on eBay, to replace the whole lot.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251165535819

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233590105877

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333600459343

Obviously if there's a better way?

I also realise that I probably should be fitting type approved Cats but i think my car is very slightly earlier than the deadline.

So basically my questions are ?
Will they fit?
Is there a better way?
Any thing I haven't considered?

Woman, at the end of our Cul-de-sac has put little printed notes through every door, suggesting we all join a WhatsApp group, to cope with the lockdown.

I can't stand half of the people in the street. Wouldn't give th e steam off my piss to put out the fire if they were on fire.
Wife feels the same....
The 2 people in the street, who are over 90, we have there phone numbers and that of their family, and they phone us randomly, to tell us things they told us three days before.
We know that they are okay and in any case neither have internet or mobiles with internet.

Will we be ostricised for not joining ? Hope so.

General Discussion Area / Interviews for jobs in lockdown
« on: 20 April 2020, 07:14:23 »
I have a question.
The client I am currently milking, for my living, is making lots of permies redundant and will get rid of contractors as soon as possible. I've been working from home for 4.5 weeks. So I applied for 3 jobs in Nuclear Subs in Derby and Barrow.
Given that my SC clearance lapsed about 18 months ago, I'd have a 12 week wait, but i guess as my house isn't approved for Official sensitive documents I would have to work on site.
But see no reason to travel for an interview.
I wonder if they'll agree to do interview via Skype or webex.
I await the agencies reading my very carefully tailored CV.

Yes indeed. The whole system of my 230K mile mv6 is erm knackered. Holes every where now.
It's time. Looks like I need everything from.Cats to tail pipe.
I'm finding eBay a little confusing.
Does anyone want to post me links of The best offerings.

Cheers

It rained right ? Alot.

I got in my 3.2 MV6 to drive the 72 miles to work and it was fine (well drizzly) for 3 miles, until i reached the local bypass.  Then traction control light comes on, car starts to limp.  Turned off and turned car off and then on, and it cleared it, but it was misfiring like only vauxhalls do and wouldn't pull more than 3500 rpm.  Got almost home and traction control light came on. Again turned it off and back on and it was okay ish.
Went in my wife car.
Got home 12 hours later and had a look.  No faults, No codes even. Runs fine. It's been sitting in the sun all day. Went for a little drive and its fine.

Grr.

Wife has a Juke Tekna. She has shoulder problem, and hasn't driven for 4 months, until we test drove this.

It's pretty much a straight swap. (Except one has lots of pointless extras and the other in a colour of piss.

Wife wanted an electric park brake, because can't use the handbrake due to pain. Although we all know that you don't need to use the parking brake in an auto.

Pick it up tomorrow.

Wife is interested in swapping her Manual Nissan PUKE for an Auto, due to shoulder injury.

One of the cars on her list is the OLD A Class A200 Turbo CVT auto Circa about 2006 ish

Anyway I thought I'd look for a forum to see if there was any information of use that might help us.

Found this:

It's crap. People ask questions. NOBODY replies

makes me want to thank all at OOF for helping me out so much over the past 3 years (and into the future)

Omega General Help / Going to increase my miles in the MV6
« on: 25 February 2019, 22:08:48 »
This probably isn't the section, but it does say "general help" and there are a few people who think I need general help.

So I bought my 3.2 MV6 in October 2016 with 163K on the clock.

It now has 209K on the clock. so about 400 miles a week.

The car has a few minor issues like erm

1) A tendancy to pull left slightly under braking (and skip right again a few moments after releasing the brake pedal)
      - Having stripped the brake pads off and found one tight in the caliper, I thought a good clean up might cure it, but erm no.
      - Whilst I still suspect the brakes to be a cause, I also suspect that the suspension might be erm somewhat worn.

2) Small oil leak from the crank sensor.  I have a new seal. Just need to actually do the job.

3) Last summer, I had a few weeks where occasionally it would stick in 3rd.  Stopping and turning it off and back on again solved the immediate issue.   It hasn't done it since September last year. I have a new gearbox filter and sump gaskets, but erm time.

4) The hand brake need adjusting. erm no excuse.

5) It uses a little coolant. I'm not bothered by this. I check it every week and add a bit.

Over the time of my ownership it's had wishbones, drop links and steering arms, coil packs, cam belt, rocker gasket on one side, breathers cleaned out three times, (stupid design or what), front disc and pads, rear discs and pads. And lots of fully synthetic oil changes.

I'm about to ramp up the miles to 550 miles a week. Mostly M57, M62 and M6 South to Junction 15

Other than fixing what I know to be wrong, is there anything else I should be wary of ?

And am I mad ?

My Y reg MV6 has a "standard" CD/tape/radio with the 4 disc magazine. I took it out on Friday to take the 4 discs out into the house, and came back to the car this morning to put 4 different discs in before I started my week.

Now the magazine has sat in there all weekend, empty, and now refuses to stay in. I can close the little door. If I select CD it obviously displays "Magazine" as an error.

Ideas? Experiences ?

Omega General Help / Seals - Obtainable?
« on: 05 January 2019, 13:20:24 »
Subject Car

3.2 MV6 auto with 207K

I have a Very small oil leak which is coming from the Crank position sensor.  The seal does not appear to be damaged, but are these available separately?

Also I took the breather "bits" off and cleaned them out. (YuK) and the seals at the front which sit on the 2 plastic pipes which push horizontally into the aluminum housing are breaked.  I have sealed them with something black and goey as a Saturday bodge.  Again are these obtainable

In neither case would the seals in my generic box of nitrile seals have a small enough cross section.
