Just a couple of inches here.

Did see a bloke in a white van roar out of the petrol station, try a handbrake turn and slither into a bollard though. Quite made my morning  :y

Loads of it here. It started in the night and is still falling really heavy. It's deep enough to stop me getting out of our drive and the roads are completely covered.
Can't get out to see how bad the main roads are.

Being retired means I can enjoy the snow without thinking about long, nightmare journeys to and from work - unless I have to go to the hospital or my GP's!

I wouldn’t fret too much, Ron, today’s 4 hour dump will probably be our ration for the year.

About 4" here, and been falling all day. I think its thawing at the same rate its falling TBH.

When it stops, need to get out an clear drive and road, as she leaves for work at daft o'clock in the morning. Me, I think I'll not bother going in tomorrow, as I'm lucky enough I can do virtually all my job from anywhere.

Next door was saying would be nice to get some snow again, he's just spent most of the morning getting rid of it from he's pathway, some people.  ::)

When I got home from work at 7.30am its was hammering down with slightly sleety rain.
Got up at at 1pm and there was a good 2 inches of snow on the ground which was a bit of a shock.

Still light snow here and it's not thawing. In fact it's started to freeze. Can't get either car out of the drive and the roads are still solid snow anyway so not going anywhere. There are crashed cars scattering the hedges and ditches and local news reported jackknifed lorries on the bypass. Might have a lay-in tomorrow.   :)

no idea what the Yeti is.

Either fwd or 4wd, either way no excuse. Ours (1.2 fwd dsg) is very capable in both the sh!tty slush and the few inches of actual snow we’ve had. The short wheelbase does mean it’ll turn on a dime with the handbrake applied though. SWMBO was not at all impressed  :P

Just because the "yummy mummies" have FWD doesn,t mean they have a clue how to use ,em, as long as they manage the pavement outside the local Tesco of course :D. Spoken by a man who has never driven a FWD. ::)

Most cars are capable enough, though we all know the quality of driving is at an all time low.

I think in this case, its the fact so many cars have no ground clearance, and the way the snow has be blown around up here, its lifting up the front of the car enough to reduce traction.  Certainly, whilst very slippery, its not bad enough to expect 3 abandoned cars in such a short space.

The 4 series has a built in snow plough so after travelling about 6 feet I've collected enough snow on the splitter to build a snowman.  ;D

I did and I'm here at work now.  :P ;D
The journey was slightly stressful as I was behind a line of 7 cars, the front one of which was driving at a steady 14 mph on the straights and braking down to single figure speeds on anything that wasn't dead straight.
IF YOU CANT DRIVE IN THE SNOW STAY AT FICKIN HOME FFS.  >:( >:(
When I arrived at work I had to have some childish sideways and donut action to calm my self down.  ;D ;D

Sadly many drivers today have had little or no experience of snow/ice driving. While I used to curse it every year when I started driving, at least I had refresher training every winter. :-*

No white stuff where I am, just a light flurry. But there's a lot not so far away

But what puzzles me is why poeple leave piles of snow on their bonnets and windscreen when they go to the supermarket. Is it some kind of "look how much snow I've got contest" ?

Not hard to clear the "igloo", is it? Soft yard broom all over the vehicle, then sweep the snowfall clear of the driveway so you don't get sued if someone goes arse over tit in it - job done.  :y

Yep, sounds good - except for clearing the path/driveway afterwards.
It may sound unnecessary and/or a trivial point, but people HAVE been sued, successfully, after part-clearing the path to the house and a visitor slipped and sprained/broke something.
The legal advice, apparently, is to clear the snow and ice completely, or leave it alone altogether.
Why so? Because YOU did not make the initial snow hazard, but in only part-clearing it, YOU make the hazard!

-4°C here this morning. The ice on the wife’s windscreen was that solid, clear stuff. I was watching her from the bedroom window, she had a hell of a job clearing it  ;D

Heard plenty of rumours of people being sued for clearing snow AT HOME but never actually found any proof (in the UK) ???

Plenty here - a good 4-5" of soft white snow that turned walking the dog into a serious workout ;D After we'd made it down the untreated country lanes to pick him up from the kennels, that is.

Only one dicey moment when we got to a large uphill section and I hadn't been able to carry much momentum (due to the corner immediately before) - still, made it up, unlike the youth in the Saab 95 Aero we passed on our way back down the hill! (If I still had the truck I'd have stopped and dragged him up it, but seeing as I only just made it up in the Skoda..)

Forecast for a hard freeze tonight down to -5ºC, so our slushy road (untreated) should turn into a giant skating rink, yay! Main roads will be fine, though, I should think, as all the bus routes have been treated.

I'm sure the motorways will still turn into a carpark..

I feel cheated, not one single snow flake has settled here. Not even a dusting of snow, it's just wet/rain.

I climbed into the car this morning as normal, drove to work as normal. What is all the fuss about!  ::)  ;D

Still very lightly snowing here. Still not thawing and the back roads are still bad.
I just went out to start the black car and it had moved from where I'd left it. It must have slid down the drive from where I'd left it after trying to get out of the drive yesterday. Never had that happen before.  It is currently wedged on a funny angle against the garage door, the wheelie bins and the house wall. Just had to get in it through the tailgate as the drivers door mirror has trapped the bins and the passenger door is inches from the house wall. No damage from what I can see but if it spins up I'll have to leave it in case it slides into the wall.
Oh what fun.  ;D  Still, I can always use the Beemer as they are notoriously good in snow.  ;D

Insignia is 4x4 but not ventured out today and day off tomorrow otherwise would gave been an early shift , I am guessing that would have been an interesting drive otherwise
Good as gold in the snow, even with 20" wheels ;)

Just pop it in Sport mode and drive normally  8)

Brothers old Insignia did that down his drive, ended up in the hedge to the side  ;D

The Desmond could be interesting as it doesn't have TC ::) do have winter tyres on it though, so should be ok...

Just got back from doing that in the park .. it's hard work trudging through snow! Certainly increases the workout factor.. dog doesn't seem to care, though ;D

yesterday morning I left Portsmouth at 9.30 & stopped for a hour at Linford to say farewell to my daughter. as I was driving towards the A3 a huge tree was blown down about 100 yards in front of me. the trunk luckily snapped in such a way that traffic was able to snake through the gap. when eventually getting to the M3 & on to the M25 & M1 the snow had arrive in earnest. volume of traffic & driving conditions slowed everything down to a crawl . motorway services were blocked off which made toilet breaks impossible ( I had to make a detour to have a pee break , wifey was desperate ) the delays & snow meant I never did the speed limit until past Leicester.  eventually got back to York at 8.15pm. going down to Hampshire I did the journey in 4. 1/4 hours.

Its downright dangerous outside now.....the sun melted some of the snow which turned into watery patches.....then the sun went down and the watery patches and snow has refrozen......I had the Mondeo going sideways at one point on what looked like a wet road....but must have been sheet ice! ....luckily nothing was coming the other way.
Going to be interesting tomorrow morning.....as -5/-6C forecast for tonight  :o

It is a little dicy on our road this morning, but it's warmed up to a balmy -2.5ºC according to the car.. I did decide to forego the 5.30am commute down the M1 and work from home, though.

Depends if you know how to drive, though.. although I worked from home that's more about everyone elses driving abilities than my own - I'm told it was gridlock around work (and likely the M25 as well) this morning..

I don't have a problem getting up and down our (untreated, sloping, icy) road, but all I see out there is people wheelspinning around, going nowhere fast or, alternatively driving way too fast for a surface that has all the grip of an oiled stripper..

I think in his case it’s in a garage at the bottom of a pretty steep slope, but tbf he could just fancy a snow day, which I have no problem with either ;).

The CEO of a division of GKN had a Ferrari 458 when I worked there.  He commuted in that all year round, including in the last lot of snow we had. Not sure if that had winter tyres on, but there’s some big ol’ balls either way!

.. or a point to make and not too much sensitivity to the level of his no claims bonus. Fair play to him, in any case. ;)

I failed to get down the M1 this morning, after failing to get down the M40.  The whole world decided the same as me, and took the A5, so I failed to get down that as well.

So I turned round and came home, what a waste of 5hrs :(

I seem to recall Kevin Wood trying similar one icy morning, and filling his nosecone full of earth bank.  I suspect big gonads sudden shrank. Plus there must have been poo...

And that's why I stayed home ;) it's been warmer than predicted here, I think, as the snow is (finally) melting and even our untreated road is largely free of (visible!) ice now.

The pavements are deathtraps of lumpy ice, of course! And the bin men haven't showed up (due yesterday) so everything is still sitting out on the kerb side..

Nope. There was no poo, I'm happy to report. Anyone suggesting that the gonads were in a position to shrink any further has clearly never driven a Westfield in sub-zero temperatures. :o

Postman deliverying the parcels at 7am said to me, "it you're going out today mate, be careful round the corner, its slippery, and I've been over twice".

Defo melted enough I can see bits of grass now, but its re-freezing now, and they are predicting more snow in the next hour :o

Hi,it's been quite a while since I've written on here, but yesterday really made me mad. Whilst driving through a housing estate which has speed humps plus about a extra 6 inches of ice on top, my  car suddenly took on a nose down look. Trip to my local garage, which confirmed 2 snapped front springs, now honest I was not speeding,or doing anything silly!.
Could it be the minus 10c temps or brittle coil springs, anyway having it repaired tomorrow, getting to old to bother in this weather.

There’s a road I (used) to go down as a shortcut not far from here. Long and straight, right through a council housing estate. It was used as a drag strip by the local lads, so they put speed bumps in. That didn’t stop them, so they made the bumps a bit higher. This continued until the bumps are like fickin mountains. 3mph or you’ll wreck your undercarriage, never seen anything like them.

Seem to have got lucky with the travel. Went to Cornwall on 8th Dec and was just in front of the incident (potential bridge jumper) that closed M5 between Taunton and Exeter for 5 hours. Made it down in just over 4 hours.

Coming back on 10th the salt boys had done a great job on M4 and I did the 260 miles in 3 hours 45.

Just driven up to Manchester today in 3 hours. Glossop tomorrow may be more interesting.

Yes now entering its 9th year. It has to do Manchester and back twice more before the end of Xmas break.

I nearly went A over T walking to the postbox yesterday, it was bloody slippery out there.

Even today, there is still almost solid ice/compressed snow over most of the road.  At least my patio is fully thawed, even if the grass still has snow on.

I'm bored of it now.
