Tartan Tax Rise
« on: 15 December 2017, 13:01:07 »

So the government of The Peoples Republic Of Scotland have put taxes up and created a new lower rate tax band for those on low wages.  :)

The new Scottish tax bands are:-

£11850 - £13850 - 19%
£13851 - £24000 - 20%
£24001 - £44273 - 21%
£44274 - £150,000 - 41%
£150,000 and over - 46%

The Scottish government claim that 55% of Scots will pay less tax than their counterparts in the rest of the UK and they will raise an extra £164 million for public services.  :-\

Good? Bad? or Ugly?  ???  What do our members north of the border think?  :)

The 164 million could be used to rebuild Hadrian's Wall.

£164 million is a lot of money...to you or me. But, taken in the context of the devolved government’s budget, it’s the proverbial drop in the ocean.

I’d be amazed if the £164m wasn’t swallowed up in costs of system changes, administration, focus groups etc etc.

Great for England. If you run a successful business and earn say £100-200k per year supplying mail order goods or Internet based services like computer programming, insurance etc, then give yourself a £1-2k pay rise by moving south across the border from the DPRJ into England. :y We get more high earners pushing up English wealth, GDP and employment, Scotland gets the reverse. :y

Hardly a large financial windfall, for the average worker.

Indeed not, but the soundbites are "55% of Scottish works pay less tax", and the SNP will keep singing that at every opportunity.

But it clearly shows, as I've repeatedly stated, that the country lacks enough rich people to subsidise the poor, lame, and the lazy. Something that those who believe in the fact the state should support them fail to grasp.
