Spark plug question
« on: 02 November 2016, 13:44:18 »

Just ordered some GM spark plugs that came in a plain white box with GM 95519055 on the side and GM on the plugs. But they are not made by Bosch but Champion and are RC10DMC4 made in France.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162082657292?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I thought the plugs for the Omega were made by Bosch for GM.

Have GM changed over from Bosch to Champion plugs?

Thanks

Can't say specifically about this, but the ones I took out of Pissy were GM made in Germany, and the ones from Trade Club GM, identical, but made in Russia! Suppliers change, regretfully.

Suspect you've been done, especially as you can buy them from dealers for less :-X

Unfortunately they are the new GM spark plugs being supplied by Vauxhall.  :o

Bought a set of 6 plugs on Trade Club from my VX dealership last week.

These were also "Champion" brand and made in France (with a ref number RC100DMC4 on the plug).

These came in a GM (Adam Opel AG) branded box with GM part number 95519055.

Looks like a new (cheaper?) supplier.

Is this, in reality, a question of who is better, la Boche or Champignon? Or, indeed is there any difference? I appreciate that the supplier has been changed, and, if the entire rest of Time is any judge, it's unlikely they've changed to a more expensive supplier... but whether the quality has, in reality gone down... who can say?

Ok, On the one hand, Champion made the ignitors for Concorde...

NGK have been in F1 sinve Honda started in the 60s, this year's Ferware-wees run on them

Bosch, as we know are the OEM for the Omega Coil packs; and made the world's first Microprocessor controlled ECU, which is very nearly reinventing the wheel.

Doesn't mean jack on choosing spark plugs for a 20 year old saloon, of course  ;D  but that's what Mr Google says, anyway :-D

What concerned me, I read on another forum that after using the Champion plugs for a short while he took them out and said they must be running hotter than the sun because the ceramic had a dark halo around them. Unlike is old GM plugs.

Source three Bosch ones, stick them in one bank, and champion in the other bank, and see what happens after a year? Ive still got my old plugs (been in since Henry VIII) and there was fair 'patterns of wear' shall we say, a mix of GM and other (I think Champion)

That's not a bad idea about half and half.  :y

Yes don't split them by bank as the ECU runs the banks as separate entities with respect to mixture and ignition timing.

Delighted to see a mix of 4 GM and 2 other-brand sparks when I changed the plugs the other month. then! Sigh!

GM cost cutting has been going on for years, easily seen in exhausts. They once were huge meat things, clamshell, seriously different from other 3rd party ones.

Now they are just the same as Eternal and other cheapy stuff from Poland, so do doubt cutting costs across all parts.  :(
