How easy ?
« on: 29 July 2012, 05:40:32 »

Washed the wifes 2.2  estate yesterday, noticed that the rubber mounting that the aerial is located on is looking quite perished, how easy is it to remove the aerial & fit a new mounting ?

If it i similar to the saloon ,you will need to get the headlining to come down enough to get to the large securing nut underneath.

Remove both side trims then the 3rd brake light section and trim.Unclip head lining from the body work where secured allowing it to drop down enough to get access to the bottom of the aerial mounting and plug. Then its just unplug the cable and undo the large securing nut and several washers and aerial will pull out of hole from above.

Refitting is the reverse. :y

you can get to the estate one in seconds, open the tailgate and under the aerial is a long part of trim from one side to the other, pull down slowly in the centre and it will un-pop but if you do not have a new rubber which i have never been able to get hold of there is not a lot you can do. if you do find new rubbers anywere i think there will be a lot on here needing them. hope this helps.

Seen these on the bay as a poss alternative, especially if its an estate with tailgate spoiler - any opinions ?

Mk4 Astra estate aerial & mount will fit, probably easier to source than the Omega rubber mounting seal

Surely cutting a replacement from a bit of rubber sheet(an old mudflap or doormat) or closed cell foam(like camping mat) will do the job with only a couple of minutes invested?

I'll report back when I've done mine; my stash of foam is in the lockup.
