why doe the pipe need replacing? Contrary to what some air-con 'experts' think, the valve is a separate part

Both of the above.

Might also need the fans and radiator, headlight and bumper off to have enough clearance to get it out, let alone back in again :-\

Ahh that ones already been done and I’ve changed both the Hp and Lp valves too,  but it Won’t stop leaking out of the lp valve and I’ve tried a couple of them and put a tap down to clean the thread. The pipes are joined on the compressor and the other end seems to disappear into the bulkhead I’m wondering whether the dash has to come out to get at the evaporator to remove them😟

The bulk head connection can be spilt on the engine side :y

Have you considered finding someone to splice in a new section without removing the whole piece?

On the bulkhead behind the engine...

You've the car there, follow the pipe :y

It might be partly obscured by the wiper mechanism.

There's a circlip we're they join, the pipe has a piece that rotates, behind that, think there's a plastic washer covering the circlip.
