Title: My MV6
Post by: Muroman on 08 July 2013, 16:50:49
Hello everyone,
I've been following this forum for a while and now I decided to register and make topic of my own Omega :)

Opel Omega MV6 3.0l V6 -95
I bought her in january 2012 and she was my first car and still is.
First I only drove and didn't do much just normal changing oil and some maintenance.

These are from previous owner.

These are couple weeks after I bought her.

Spring and summer is close. Vectra is my dad's 2.6l V6.

Until this I've been pretty much taking parts off and polish them and put back on, some broken parts I got from crashed Omegas.
Also changed all the fluids, brakepads and also fitted new music player because I didn't got the original player and the old wasn't so good or nice either.

Winter came pretty fast.

Decided to get new headlamps that were used but in average condition because I got them cheap :)

Early 2013.

Spring 2013 after big motor service
-Valve covers and gaskets
-Timing belt and water pump
-Spark plugs
-A/C service

Then I took the fron pumper off and cleaned it and also put it on properly earlier it was somehow loose.

And now after the front pumper project and ongoing led lamp project
(https://www.dropbox.com/s/7net9hcwxxzqbl1/DSC01033e.JPG?dl=1)

After the leds next project will be to do something to the wheels, spacers or new alloys.

Hope you like it and feel free to ask anything :)

I will update more later :)

I didn't put them on, they were on when i bought the car, but when I took them off from old headlamps I heated them and just pulled them off and I think it was somekind of double-sided tape. If I would put them on I would use double-sided tape or somekind of silicone.

I have to ask, what should I do with the wheels? Probably omega's original alloys? Or just paint these and buy spacers?
Problem is that I dont like these alloys with ET49 they are too inside in the fender.

I ordered the top model led(42mm) of the picture to doors, reading light and tailgate.(6 leds). Back door reading lights(37mm) I already found in local store but the longer ones they didn't have. Less heat, less power consumption and more light that's why :)

Thank you all for positive feedback :)

Evening forum, this is update of what I have done.

I had one problem with the back window it worked from front switch but from back door switch it didn't go up, there was broken wire. Easy to fix but I wanted to look inside the doors even it wasn't necessary to take off the doorboard(what is the real naming for that?)
You just needed to take off the black rubber spriral from the car end and take off the adapter and pull down the rubber and fix the broken wires. Could've been easier to explain with photos but I kinda forgot.

I guess you can find those with much cheaper than in my country...

Evening OOF!

Some update here :)
Had some problems with the small hex bolts, needed to drill them, but got them off nice after some fighting :)
Oh and I changed the brake pads while ago so no need to change those.

And what is going to break in the front soon because it rattles and pounds and keeps preettty hard noise when going example on gravel?? I checked all the plastic things and anything that could make the noise but haven't found anyhting yet... Probably need to make topic to general help if it gets even worse.

Evening OOF,

umm guys, not so good Christmas for me...

It happened couple weeks ago haven't been able to do pretty much nothing since... I think you can imagine.
And I would have couple words about airbags... how to make sure they work in my future cars, my head and neck would like it.
But I'm glad that my seatbelts tighteners worked.
Couple stitches, bruises and pain in every bone and couple days of swearing about the car, nothing critical, don't worry :)

I'm not sure yet what to do for the car, but sure I'm trying to save every working piece of it.
Not even sure if it could be fixed, the engine had no impact I think because there's little cap between the destruction and engine. And also it haven't moved.
But wish me luck for everything and Happy Christmas everyone! :)

Hey, I went to tear her down and came across some black box behind the right side front fender. (forgot to take photo) What is it? Just wondering, could learn a new thing :)

Overall the engine room looked pretty bad, for what it seemed from closer look engine is fine (that's a relief) but everything else is kinda scrap.

I decided to be without a car for a while, get more money maybe start a real project or something.

Charcoal canister connected to the purge valve which in turn is connected via hose to the breather box

black box behind the right side front fender.

Charcoal canister connected to the purge valve which in turn is connected via hose to the breather box

So umm, what I read it's a filter that storages fuel vapors when engine is not running and then sends it to the air intake system along the fresh air coming trough it when engine is running, am I right?
And why is that?

-Mika
Title: Re: My MV6
Post by: RobG on 31 December 2013, 22:23:41
Charcoal canister absorbs fuel vapour from the fuel tank breather. When purge valve solenoid opens (via engine ECU) the engine pulls the vapours in and burns them instead of venting them direct to the atmosphere

Bought it month ago and until now I've been fixing all kind of small things.
Still got to get back foglight to work and front lights aren't properly in place
or something there is wrong because they feel like the inside of the lamp
isn't in place in anyway.

I'm not sure yet should I buy original or KW Variante 1 or something else.

Update.

Headlights were broken, project started.

Had the old headlights from the silver MV6, they were non xenon so started to tear the headlights apart and hoping it would become something nice :D
(https://www.dropbox.com/s/3i0e8ovgpcw36ff/WP_20140412_008e.jpg?dl=1)

The sikaflex was draining and decided to put the camera on even nicer than in the silver MV6.

Drained headlights on. I think it's nice :)

And today changed original rear springs. Would it been easier if I had the whole rear lifted up??

EDIT: I think my thermostat is broken, this has even worse problems with the heat than the silver MV6.
What is easier way to say that the thermostat is broken? I think I change the liquids first but if even after that it heats up a little bit more than usually I want to do something.

Thanks, Mika

Hello OOF! :)

Here's thermostat replace photos and car washed :) I can tell you I'm not going to do that again any soon...
I see B-Bolt has its name for a reason, but altought I did survive replacing thermostat with help of my dad! :)

Here's the place where it all happened :)

Here's how it started.

Until this it'd been pretty easy.

And now the job started.

We just couldn't get it off as one peace so this is how it looked after remowing :)

New one, 55eur+couple o-rings 4eur
(https://www.dropbox.com/s/x2wz8awsvnxawgd/WP_20140501_003e.jpg?dl=1)

New one in place and everything ready to put together.

All bolts was used, strange from usual engine repairs... Well engine running smoothly again and everything works.

20km driven heat now keeps itself in about 91-95 degrees. Tells me that there could still be some air but now definetly better because before the replace I was driving in highway and it was about 94-96 degrees, when stopped it got to 97-100...
Now couple times water out water in and then glycols inside.

Nice work on polishing those headlights, I'll try it soon too to get my right side headlight a bit brighter. Going to post pics about it also, if the operation is a success :P

Hello!

I've been doing all kind of small detail fixes since last update and I don't have photos of everything.

I went to opel service and they changed the oil to gearbox, it was expensive but now I can drive with a smile on my face knowing I have new oils there and what's best the only leak that came from gearbox is now fixed too.

I got the self-levelling shocks working but the compressor makes pretty loud sound when running. But I use is until it works no more and then buy normal shocks to back.

Then I changed the front brakediscs and brakepads, took the "new" discs from the -95 omega too :)

Here's the doorlist change.
I took off the list that was broken and got the "new" list from the old omega, it was a hard work but it turned out to be very good.

Then there's been the ending of the -95 Omega. We stripped it almost naked. Lifting the engine was pretty easy as it was my first time lifting engine from any normal vehicle... it took about 15 mins after exhaust being dropped and the front cutted open. I bet it can be hard when you can't just cut the front open.

I still have some parts and selling them here in finland. Engine and the gearbox went pretty quickly :)

I got a small water leak somewhere in the back of the engine and started to find the leak first I was expecting the worst but then took apart the intake system and saw the water all over the oil cooler plate.

Here's the water leak topic
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=126551.0

I got this wonderful carage to use during this project and it really was an enjoyable job.
Here's pictures

Then I decided to change to intermediate tyres, as my summertyres were worn out and winter tyres too new to put under car yet :D

Also I fixed my towing hitch's connector, it was connected wrong. At the same time I painted the hitch to metallic black :)

And finished it off with good, thorough and gentle wash.

Also changed exhaust from cats back to simons exhaust. Now it's breathing good and sound is pretty good too! :)

Thanks, please enjoy! ;)

Hi here's some winter update!

After I changed the exhaust it left me some rattle noises from under so I decided to go under the car and take the exhaust away and try again. It was a succeed and now I'm just hearing nice mur from the back :) The sound is mur and not some youngish boomrattle sound! :D
(https://www.dropbox.com/s/3zg1g8nozxqhqra/WP_20141113_006e.jpg?dl=1)

Here's some more pictures with new exhaust and the ''intermediate'' tires/wheels :)

Here's what I did with the TC button light as it was broken. Was annoying so change but all and all easy job. And at the same I changed every single lamp on the dash :)

This is the lowest consumption I've ever got! Driving with 4 adults and trunk full loaded. Those Hankook winter tyres without studs 2.3bars and Shell V-Power in the tank. Speed limits changed on 80 and 100 kmh/h.

And then I finally changed the winter tyres as the snow came :)

Troubling with weather, humidity and foaming oil. Cleaned breather hoses but didin't take those out. I used air to blow them clear from the worst grunge and cleaned carefully those eco parts top of engine. The breather box might be still full of that grunge or foam how you call it in here?

Also New Wheels!!-->

Hopefully summer comes soon :D

Hi OOF!! I've had a very busy summer :) Time for little update! I hope that even one of the members has been waiting :)

So umm clock is so much so I need to go sleep soon but wanted to tell that I'm alive and the car is in wonderful condition after this summer has been she's best I bet :D

Here's rear brake service, I changed handbrake pads and the brake discs.

There's been lots of other work with the car but I'll update later! :)

Brake service was made at March.

I ended up with 245/40 on those ATS wheels but I was a little disappointed with that size, should've bought 235/40.... But we learn from mistakes I guess :) And I will continue with the wheels later ;)

Then at the end of April the water disappearing problem somehow exploded in my hands :D Water broke trough somewhere from the back of the engine and I'll post pictures and tell more of that later.

Sounds good, I'll be watching for updates
Title: Re: My MV6
Post by: Muroman on 26 August 2015, 14:47:47
So it all started as a little loss of coolant, eventually one morning at April as I drove to work I needed to stop because the coolant level check warning came up. As I went to outside it was steaming and I could hear the coolant tripping to ground even the engine was runnning then I immidiately stopped the engine and got more water from nearby restaurant :D

First we hoped that some old pipe has become brittle... but as we were searching the problem and taking apart the engine we found that the head gasket is leaking from the left hand side head....

It took couple hours to decide what to do with the car and decided to fix it :) And I don't regret it now because it was unsual thing to do and it really helped to understand more of the engine and all other things too.

This picture here is as we were taking the engine apart.

Heads lifted off and after that breather box and oil cooler.

My opinion of the hone(not sure of the word sorry :D) looked pretty good??

Breather box and oil cooler cleaned and glued carefully in place.

Other head in place.

Another.

I think that I used more time to clean everything and searching quality parts for best price than actually taking car apart or assembling :D

All the intake parts were at soda blast and the finished product was absolutely great.

Every O-ring and gasket were changed and cleaned and I also took oil sump off and re-assembled it.

Waiting for friend to come assemble the timing belt.

After all the engine is running great only thing that kinda left undone was that the lifter caps wasn't cleaned and I think they're making little noise...

Also bought aluminium cam covers from 2.5 vectra, now I need to take care that the breather box and all the tubes from it stays clean.

Very nice job if you have time, place and patience to do it :)

Thanks,

Wow, that is a great bit of work you've done there, that has no doubt made a big difference, does it feel better on a run now?

First I had some starting problems because it tried to run with 500rpm as cold and for couple weeks I already was gonna change the coolant temperature sensor but then suddenly problem solved itself.

It runs smoother and it already ran like super smooth so you can only imagine how smooth the sound is now ;) Can't say really about the power but I think it somehow responses faster to full gas but have to say one more time I can feel how clean the engine is :

Umm I really don't know the specific stuff used because parts were at local company but the finishing job was avesome. OH I forgot to say that I used lacquer to get the plenums surface back to shine as it went matta after the blast.

Sway bar end links and right side outer tie rod changed.

Hi again!

So I sold those avesome wheels as I got good price out of those and then decided to buy these.
Specs were right but as I got them home and measured the right specs.... wrong ET and wrong bolt split.... Decided to test them and looked nice but couldn't drive as they didn't fit nicely... so luckily I still have those intermediate wheels and tyres :D (You can see them at the last pictures :) )

Some tuning ;) I removed the oem air intake pipe from the back of grill and put second hand much better 80mm pipe from under the headlamp. (RED ARROW)

Then replaced oem plastic grills with aluminium grill :)

I think at higher speed better response to gas as the air gets in with pressure and the pipe is larger.
Little more cooling as the original intake pipe was taking some fresh air from the radiator and also radiator has now larger cooling surface area.

Also I have this particular reason for the open grill also at the other side, thinking of getting more air to brakes that way but now it's just a plan :)

Like your thinking about the ram air effect especially at higher speeds and also shorter run direct into air box. Cooling...yes that pipe does obscure some of the rad and condenser air flow should be noticeable in heat of Turkey. :y :y :y jim

Moving air intake to this position would spell the end of your engine in Ireland I fear. Too low for driving in wet. Hit one decent puddle and engine would be full of water.

Hello,

I tested the air intake thing with driving on full rain just behind another vehicle and driving to deep water puddles etc.. having fun on wet ;) And as I took off the filter it was maybe somehow wet but I think that is only the humidity because there wasn't any sign of water all dry.. But better keep looking the situation :)

I worked out that the automatic ride height kompressor didn't work good. Took it of and guess how dirty it was inside! Cleaned everything up and put some vaseline in the bearing that is marked with red cross in the picture :) Put it back in and it worked like a dream and no noise anymore :) Then.. guess what after couple weeks  :'( Other shock absorder spitted oil out :(

But does anyone know does it remain functionally because the ride is still kinda good and the air stays in???

Then one day I was about to give up with this car as the water broke out again!!!! Luckily it was only the expand tank :)

Also some pictures after good wash ;)

Then I had this extra water pump for the cabin....
Actually the story is kinda funny because at first there was no problem but eventually did a nice easy job on -15*celsius.... it was freezing cold.... Anyway  as I was just looking up my car... like just hanging out with her because it was cold :) And noticed a small spot under front bumper.. looked under and up but nothing anywhere and as I was searching for leak I ended up measuring the voltages of the extra water pumps one at the front radiator and the other pushing water to the cabin. The radiator one I didn't get how it works... but then the cabin one as I measured the voltage with ignition ON there was a 12.4 but the pump didn't work...  so to the garage and remembered that the old omega didn't have the extra pump and I had bought some cheap pump earlier :) Changed the pump and there was a shivering sound again :) It was a very easy job but when needed to do some things without gloves it wasn't fun :) And good things also there haven't been leaks after that :)

So this is the old pump. As you can see form pictures it has a worn out (charcoal).

Yes, at the moment I have this radiant heater, it warms the oilsump.

I'm planning on going to this tube heater that warms up cooling water :)

And also I have interior heater.

Hellou, I have'd some heating problems with the car but after the new extra water pump under the coolant tank replaced no signs of over 95 degree spotted  :y

Had one problem with the speedometer or what it is called...instrument cluster? It wasn't working then got new one and as I was about to change it... guess what, the old started to work  ::)

MOT--had to replace one right hand side front lower arm's bushing and ended up buying brand new whole arms on both sides :)

But haven't done much since last update here's some pictures as they tell more than words :)

These rocks were found over the exhaust heat shields as I was tightening the handbrake

The lights if you mean the interior lights, they are just ebay stuff, white color.
Headlights are made of OEM xenons and from aftermarket DEPOs, bulbs regular cheap bulbs.

Hi!

Doing some maintenance on car since some small oil leakage from the camcovers, also at the same time cleaned breathers and all intake parts.
Changed powersteering oil, motor oil (almost made a oil thread :D ) but I'm going to use the best oil to me, can't say it, I heard about the post counts :D
Oil filter, air filter haven't come yet but ordered K&N from Germany  :y
Camcovers were at soda blast, painted them with 650C spray aluminium paint I like the result.
Oh those camcover gaskets are paininthearse.... got one from VX but the other was left to somewhere on the way and now I'm kind of waiting for it but ordered aftermarket one.
And that aftermarket gasket haven't came yet either so now just waiting and waiting....

Also found awfull lot of leakages from the intake parts  :o fixed them all next time taking apart need to change atleast one of the gaskets that connects the first RAM to the plastic intake part...

????What do you think, should I wait for the VX camcover gasket or put the aftermarket one in as it comes????? The other cover is in place already with the VX one.

Hello,

had to finish the maintenance project and put a afermarket gasket on place and the rubber felt completely different than the original and also a lot smaller/thicker how would you say... Ajusa was the manufacturer of the gasket. Let's see how it copes. Old ones were Topran and lasted 15k

K&N came also  8) Didn't try sounds yet as wanted to everything heat up only a little and now let it cool down little before another start(making sure gaskets and the sealant get their places)

Hello, I haven't stopped with the car :)

After 2016 autobox problems kind of needed a break from the car but eventually the interest got back up :)

Summer 2017 I changed almost every bit of cooling system radiator, thermostat, pipes, pumps and even re-wired the additional electric pumps to control them manually. After that finally heating problems got away.

As the winter was coming fast, changed bushings to rear and to front (I don't know why I got no pictures of front ones) rear bushing from pedders (fit to monaro). Front bushes were yellow strongflex straight fit.

Some rust fixes from front arch and finally new front shock absorders.

As for coming, I just got a new garage :)

SRi tail lights.

The Vectra saloon is a pretty decent car in the scheme of things. Shame it's not a facelift one as they got some subtle differences and look a bit sharper. Although I don't think you could get the V6 petrol in facelift saloon :-\
