Agree very helpful site, Honest John adds another useful link
The yearly road tax can be checked here, an interesting addition is a date is returned further down the page asking if this is date  you aquired the car.
In other words it`s the date the registered keeper aquired it

Really?

I was struggling to find a site recently that would give me the tax rate just from the Reg No.  :-\

The DVLA like most I tried need the make, model, variant, engine size, fuel, drivers dick size, etc and frankly are a faff!  ::)

It's ad free though...

vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ViewVehicle gives you all the vehicle details including emissions and date of registration... Also confirms that the reg matches the colour and model of the vehicle.

https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/?_ga=2.147880754.467037773.1547398454-1045304815.1537546450 gives you the MoT history...

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables gives you the tax rates...

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax tax/sorn vehicle on line...

https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle/y change of keeper...

Not exactly taxing, no pun intended...  :D

From 1 April 2019 VED, rates for cars, vans and motorcycles will increase in line with RPI.
With an additional kick in the wallet for the most polluting cars  >:(
Makes me feel like spitting on all the smug zero rated toss pots out there  :P & with my stinking man flu, I`ve been gobbing up some really nasty dockyard oysters  :-X
