SWMBO usually gets a turkey crown from the supermarket/Costco but this year decided she wanted a fresh turkey and she was going to buy it from a proper local independent butcher. It was duly ordered the other week and she went to collect it yesterday. In hindsight she should have probably asked how much it would be as she ordered it  but she didn't ..

... £68!!!!  :o :o :o :o

It'd better be bl**dy nice!

We went this route about 10 years ago.

Tough as old boots.

Never again.

I must admit I can't see the attraction of Turkey , dry , almost tasteless , waste of a dinner for me  :(
You're cooking it wrong :)

Its not my favourite, but it makes a nice change from the red meat roasts I get the rest of the year :).  I'm certainly not complaining that I'll fall out of bed, scratch me nuts, make myself look (almost) respectable, fall down the stairs. stuff a roast turkey with all the trimmings down my neck, fall asleep in front of the Queen and constantly break wind for the rest of the day.

The only good thing I can say about it is that it isn't chicken. Chicken is vile and disgusting and no human should ever eat it. It smells like human shite ffs, why would anyone want to eat that ?
And as for their miscarriages* aka "eggs". Words fail me.

* I suppose they are actually unfertilised ovum. Still disgusting whatever term you use.

I can't understand the popularity of chicken either, Albs. A few years back I said to a work colleague that I hated chbicken, to which he replied "How can you hate chicken; it doesn't taste of anything?"
Well, if it doesn't have any taste, why eat it? ??? ??? ???

Are you sure it's not human shite that smells like chicken?

Which came first, the chicken or the human shite?  ;D

it shouldn't be dry, but I'm not a fan either. Goose if you insist on poultry, wild boar if it's supposed to be a treat....

There are enough chocolates and cakes and biscuits here to last till March. Better than socks, I suppose.

What?  :o Socks are good, and you can never have enough... Wearing work boots, I consume about twenty pairs a year :-[

As mentioned in the happy Christmas thread, the turkey has gone in the bin uncooked. So need to visit Sainsburys asap to tell them they owe me £40. If they argue I shall tell them my £6 grand a year ( plus petrol & diesel)custom will be returning to Tescos.

They're open boxing day so you should have put it outside and returned it tomorrow.
Something like "I've got a turkey outside that was off when we came to cook it. Do you just refund me now or do it bring it into the store."  ;D
