Does anyone have any contact details for him? Looking at his profile, he was last here in April.

Was wondering if he still strips down gearboxes faster than I eat a curry?

Think Entwood may have visited him fairly recently?  :-\

General Car Chat / Bigger Horn? (Zafira)
« on: 03 August 2019, 22:07:08 »
I've always felt the Zafira's horn could do with upgrading, it's very weak little "peep" type sound. Not nearly aggressive enough, always found Omega one decent enough.

Had to avoid someone reversing up lane 2 of M6, on way back from Ireland  :o

I really wanted a better horn then!

Fit second hand Omega or anything else out there?

General Car Chat / Big thanks to Serek (SOS Automotive)
« on: 03 August 2019, 22:04:30 »
I abandoned my 3.2 with him around 3 weeks ago, before I left for Ireland in the Zafira. Collected it today and it's running sweet as a nut!

When I limped it up there it would start but with a miss-fire and run lumpy but would generally sort itself out, managed to drop it there in successfully, it's had a mini overhaul...

- Cam Covers and gaskets
- New coil packs, which I had lying around. Although I may get brand new set. (old ones seriously cracked up)
- Oil and Filter change
- Oil change and gaskets on the gearbox, which now changes much smoother. Serek mentioned it was full of crud in the sump  :'( - That said it changes smoother than before, so maybe some life left in it yet.
- Fuel filter change
- Brake Fluid flush and change
- HBV change, source of coolant leak. Was only 2 year old genuine example.  :(

All done for a very reasonable sum in my view and it's all been done right  :y

Recently done around 1,200 miles in the Zafira, good to be back in the Omega. Recent service work should keep it going for another couple of years at least, fairly low 172k miles on it.  ;D

So big thanks to Serek.  :y :y :y :y

General Car Chat / Land Rover off-road days (JLR product)
« on: 10 July 2019, 09:21:46 »
One for Fuse19/TB,

I've kindly been gifted a half day off-road experience, as MotherT swapped her E-Class for an Evoque now.

I see they are dotted all over the country, Solihull venue is booked up till end of the year  :o

Is this the best or one, or is one of the others better for an off-road experience?

Cheers  :y

Omega General Help / Miss-fire on startup
« on: 08 July 2019, 09:03:59 »
Recently the 3.2 has been lumpy  on startup, if I blip the throttle a few times it clears and is smooth.

This morning though, appeared to be a little worse, clear miss fire which did clear.

Could be unrelated but it’s also using coolant more recently as well, maybe a cup or so every 500-1000 miles.

Thinking for lumpy/miss it could be coil pack, plugs are 2 years old GM ones. Need to read codes later.

General Car Chat / Ireland Breakdown Cover
« on: 07 July 2019, 22:59:50 »
Any recommendations? Taking the Zafira to Ireland for a week soon, already have AA cover here through my bank account.

But the AA want an extra £52 just for 1 weeks breakdown cover  :o

General Discussion Area / Restoring old portable bbq?
« on: 30 June 2019, 17:43:28 »
I’ve got an old portable BBQ, it’s very old as GrampaT had it. I used to use it well in my student camping days, but it’s been left for a few years in garage and has rusted up a bit.

I know I can clean up the grill, but it’s the under body where the lava rock is. Wondering if I should clean it up or just leave it and just use it as is.

New ones are £30 odd, so any paint etc it’s not much for a new one. But a tin of black hammerite high heat?

Have some waxoyl underbody seal in the garage  ;D

General Car Chat / Good thing about Uber...
« on: 28 June 2019, 21:54:47 »
Is you get to try out lots of different cars, on a recent trip to our Lisbon office I've been in:

Peugeot 308 x2
Renault Megane
E-Class Merc
Ford C-Max
Citroen C3 AirCross
Dacia Duster

All were fairly new, a couple of years old, the Dacia was quite good considering it's a budget car, the Ford felt very poorly built. But the surprise for me was the C3 AirCross, the seats were excellent. Very very comfy and it just floated over bumps, of which there are many in Lisbon. Citroen's maybe disposable cars, but they do appear to offer staggering value and kit.

Ugly cars, but very different interiors.....

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Rear Cig Power
« on: 12 June 2019, 21:43:57 »
I plugged a USB adaptor into rear cig lighter, to power a mobile device.

The ignition was not on (no key in barrel) and I’ve not driven the car for at least 24 hours, yet as soon as it was plugged in the device started to charge.  :-\

Found this searching...

Also be aware that on 2001 model years onwards that the rear cig lighter becomes an aux power port and is switched by a power relay, this remains on for some time (cant remember quite how long but 30-60 mins rings a bell)

Is that 60 mins from when power is requested or ignition off.

Concerned about overnight battery drain.

Omega General Help / Parking Sensor Constant Tone
« on: 22 April 2019, 19:13:44 »
Getting constant tone on rear sensors, had been a bit temperamental for a while. Usually a nice light 'tap/smack' on each sensor fixed the problem, done a bit of diagnosis this time.

I can hear the clicking on each sensor, so I think it's an obstruction. Best to remove each sensor from the housing, clean the tube and re-fit?  :-\

General Discussion Area / Fitting Vinyl Click Flooring.
« on: 01 April 2019, 15:48:21 »
So house works nearly complete, but I'm a bit broke now. We had 'luxury' Vinyl stuff fitted in new kitchen/diner, it's like laminate stuff but better. Waterproof, warmer and quieter. I had that professionally fitted...

I would like this all through downstairs now, I have a pile of 9 packs of the stuff already for the new play room. (which was old kitchen) Also need to buy more stuff as I know need to keep going if I want all down stairs done.

Looks straight forward enough to fit based on youTube videos, take my time, angle/cut well enough and it clicks together. I've got the underlay stuff, the floor is level (2013 build house, screed floor) laminate is down in hallway/living room. Tiles were in the old kitchen but they have been removed. But not sure where to start in play room, when actually putting the planks down.

Old kitchen:

I would go length ways starting from bay window, the side with sink has 1 unit remaining right next to bay window.

Any flooring experts? Would you start on wall where the sink was? Start at bay window? Or start at other end at work towards bay window?  :-\

Our old kitchen was 4m x 2.5m so quite small, new kitchen diner is 8m x 4m so quite a change for us, old kitchen will be a perfect play room for my 2 girls.

If you had the choice, would you get:

2013/14 XF-S Portolio with 3.0d

Or

2015/15 R-Sport with 2.0d?

The later one is the newer shape, is is significantly better? The 3.0 would give effortless power and be silky smooth. But wonder if the newer I4 in the latest shape would be sufficient.

Both are suitable replacements for a Merc.  ::)

General Car Chat / Jump Starting Modern Cars
« on: 08 March 2019, 12:09:08 »
Car: 2014 E-Class E220 CDI.

I parked it up towards end of Jan, as I could not force myself to drive it any more. It's been left on a driveway since, it's going to be used again by MotherT.

Can I jump it as I would an Omega? (if it fails to start?)

Anything special I should do?  :-\

At least they hit a bus, not another car which would have made it far worse.
