Omega General Help / Rear Diff Bushes
« on: 23 October 2015, 18:42:03 »
Can they cause rattling noises from the rear on rough roads?

New shocks on back, subframe bushes too. Springs fine, checked them. But it's still not as good as it once was. Maybe because it's all new it's quite stiff  :-\

183k - Diff not been lowered in about 2 years, nor jacked on at any time.

General Discussion Area / Oscilloscope Value?
« on: 10 October 2015, 15:21:03 »
In the process of a loft clear-out at my Grandparents, came across this.

Not sure on it's value, it was destined for the local tip. Quick google has varying values from  £8 to £80  :-\

Worth anything?  :-\

Omega General Help / Rear bush removal, help!
« on: 24 September 2015, 18:24:01 »
Does this need to come out as well? Guide shows nice black space, not rusty one like here. Looks like it should come out? New bush has no chance of going in other wise  :-\

General Car Chat / To good results from weekend...
« on: 21 September 2015, 12:13:09 »
1) I wanted to replace the oil sump O-ring, as I'd not replaced it in years  :-X (it's rubber one not the copper crush one) - Until recently never had a problem, but maybe slight oil loss could have been from that, so thought time for a new one. Called into Vx dealer in Camberley, as I no local parts places had them, copper ones only. 12:50 on a Saturday, 10 mins before they shut, I pop in and ask for one.

Asked if it was for a V6? Said no it's a 2.2 and it's rubber one. Guy popped out with a box of various sump O-rings, gave me the right one. Said no charge, it's more hassle to charge you for it!  8)

2) New Battery from ECP, i'd left the 2.2 for about 2 weeks and it's battery was fubared. 2.2 has always eaten batteries, not sure if steering wheel adapter for alpine unit causes a draw  :-\ - Either way, the battery was flat as a pancake, no lights, no nothing. Even with trickle charge on, barely in life. Normally with trickle charge on it can at least un-lock and lock. Given it was that flat and with winter arriving, time for a new one. Then spotted the Bosch one I bought from ECP had a 3 year warrenty and it was only 2 years old. I did a click and collect, but no longer had the invoice, I bought it in a different branch too, but tried my luck....

ECP - How can I help?
Me - Dead battery, but it has a warranty and here is the Click-Collect order reference with my name.
ECP - No can do, we need the invoice number from that branch. You can buy a battery here, but we can't do warranty claim.
Me - Would that branch still have invoice number?
ECP - Yes.
Me - So if I ring that branch now and get the number, you can process this claim? [me hinting, why could he not do it?]
ECP - Yes if you have the time to ring them and get that, we can do that.

So I call the branch, providing click to order reference the guy said it would be an issue finding the invoice number  >:( but as soon as I mentioned the date I bought it, all became easy. He found the ref.  ???

In the end, walked out with brand spankers battery.  8)

3) Finally got my Halfords trade card back, time for new wipers all around. Bosch ones came in at £20.99 each  :o

Trade card, £12.99  :D  8)

General Car Chat / MaxTrac Shocks - A Review
« on: 19 September 2015, 20:09:34 »
I did want Meyle shocks, but AGP said they would be at least 3 to 4 weeks. I was recommended MaxTrac, they are made to OEM spec and came in at under £50 the pair with an OOF discount.

A few pictures, note the fitting kit is almost identical to GM.

Front row is MaxTrac kit, back row is 1 month old GM fitting kit.

They replaced knackered GM's so its lot stiffer than before, so I guess time will tell if they hold up.  :)

I've still not solved all the rear suspension noise from the 2.2, I think the rear donuts needs to be changed next as over the same roads it's noisier than the 3.2, which also runs standard shocks.

General Car Chat / Rear shocks top nut
« on: 18 September 2015, 20:25:11 »
The removal of rear shock top nut, what size spanner was needed for the centre flat bit.

Was it 5 or 6mm? I used an adjustable last time, but want to invest in proper size as it slipped too easily.

Cheers

I rang AGP to order a pair of Meyle rear shocks for my 2.2, but these would be 3 weeks at least, none in the country! AGP rang back a short time later with a recommendation: MaxTrac, for a similar price, not personally heard of these but AGP advised these were slightly better quality than Meyle. They had just started distributing them, but all feedback has been good. Always great service from AGP, so went on their recommendation.

Rear shocks arrived today, 9am, only ordered them yesterday afternoon! They were not sent direct from AGP, but  direct from manufacture.

Sadly they did not really package them that well, they were just the shock boxes taped down the middle, not much on the ends. The result? One missing shock!  :(

So on the phone to AGP, 30 mins after they shut. But they picked up!

Me - "Shocks I just ordered, one was missing due to poor packaging."
AGP - "Very sorry about that sir, let me speak to the suppliers"
Me - "Thanks"

[60 seconds later]

AGP - "A new shock will be with you Tuesday, really sorry about that, we usually double box them"

So not the weekend I planned, but as always great service from AGP team  :y :y

The shock that did arrive does look good quality, just shame missing one and the not so good packaging....

Omega General Help / Rear Shocks: GM vs B4's vs Meyle
« on: 04 September 2015, 18:23:27 »
I removed rear shocks a couple of weeks back, cleaned them up, checked they returned down in one smooth motion and refitted. Now they are clean with no road muck on them, there is clearly oil around the shocks.

So they are fubared!

Question is do I go GM or B4? Not interested in firming ride up, after comfort and long life.

Are the B4s stiffer then GM? Would I notice a difference? Those that have fitted them, how did you find them?

Meyle look very competitive, just £23 each from AGP. Do they have same warranty as drop links? Can't see any reference.

First thoughts are give Meyle a go, given price difference. Think B4's are more like £55 each?

Omega General Help / Elite Seats - Drivers not working?
« on: 01 September 2015, 17:50:20 »
Just tried to put seat in another setting for MrsT, no worky  :(

Passenger seat moves fine, both bottom and back. But drivers seat has nothing, won't slide back or forwards or recline, none of memory options work.  :-\

Almost as if it has no power, blown fuse?  :-\

Omega General Help / Still crashing a bit at the back
« on: 19 August 2015, 08:48:25 »
So I replaced the rear shock bushes, with nice new ones on the 2.2 - Does appear to have helped things, not as bad as it was.

But it does still knock a bit from the back over rough roads, more so than it used to I feel  :-\ Take the 3.2 down same bit of road it's noticeably more quiet, less knocking/crashing about from the rear.

Both have standard GM shocks on the back and standard springs.

Rear donut bushes?  :-\ They are original to the car (15 years & 181k)

General Discussion Area / What WiFi Signal Booster?
« on: 11 August 2015, 08:39:08 »
Parents In-Law had a BT HH4 in their living room, it provided fairly good reception around the house.

They were shipped a HH5 and for unknown reasons a BT bod came out to fit it, but he moved it from the living room to the office, which is one corner of the house.

Now signal really struggles to get through the house, in the opposite corner of the house is the TV room and all mobile devices really struggle. Tried changing bands/various config settings on the router, no improvement. Also plugging it into the old location it does not work. Apparently BT have said it has to stay in that location now  :-\

Anywho, thought about getting them a WiFi signal booster, put in the old location should give good signal all around the house.

But which one?

BT's own or go another make?
