Possible Lakes Meet 5th/6th/7th July
« on: 23 March 2013, 20:42:06 »

Looks like this is some demand for a Lakes meet.

After messing the owner around last year, before we approach them this year, we would need some realistic expectation of numbers.

As per the Newent meet, we would require a non refundable deposit into the OOF account fairly quickly. Also, we may ask for the balance to be paid a month or so before. Sorry for these extra burdens this year, but its likely to be the way we have to do these things now  :'(

Need to know fairly quickly, so we can approach the owners with numbers.

Voted probably ... just me and a tent though ... due to a few other things I cannot commit just yet ... another couple of weeks before any definite commitment, but working towards going as against not ... if that makes sense :)

I think, from memory, the owner only lets us have 1, sometimes 2, statics. Can't remember the price, but quite steep IIRC.

That said, if prepared to share, not too bad. I'd certainly considered sharing one.

Last time we went to the Lakes Meet, the Journey up was atrocious - massive delays on the M6 all the way and the whole journey was laced with torrential rain... the last thing we wanted to do was put the tent up when we got there! Hence the reason for prefering the idea of the static.

Personally I don't think there is enough there to make it viable.

adding the maybe's and the definites equals 12, so 50% are bound to drop out... I really don't think 6 is enough.  :-\

It was certainly very different last year, more cozy, more inclusive, as we could all fit easily under a single shelter.

IMHO the decision needs to be made early ,, the later it is made the more folks will have made, or be making, other arrangements.

Go for it, get some names up and others may join in ...  :y :y :y

phone gixer and persuade the pair of them to come ... they seemed to really enjoy last year

Just my thoughts .. nowt else :)

Just to throw in my 2p... I'm not sure we can make it and can't commit until mid to late May. It depends on how the appointment goes with the consultant and whether I get sent to the local Private Hospital to get treatment ;)

But, if we are free then we would probably come but can I make a small suggestion... Why not meet further south (unless Broocie is a definite yes) as we will mostly be coming up from more southern counties :-\

That would be tempting for me.....The Lakes is just too far to go for me just for a weekend (busman's holiday!).

Last Sunday i drove a similar distance non stop (270 miles) in 5 1/2 hours. I was knackered on the Monday  :(

Last Sunday i drove a similar distance non stop (270 miles) in 5 1/2 hours. I was knackered on the Monday  :(

Lightweight!  ;) ;)

The past few years I've driven 200 & a bit miles each way to collect SWMBO's Auntie from Edinburgh at Christmas, turned around after a butty & a brew ..... 4 hours each way, once in the Omega & last year in the Merc. Then delivered her back in the New Year ....... Dead easy.   ::) ::) ::) ::)

i'm getting old tho'  :( :(

Iirc. Elite Pete had sorted out a Chester venue. That's 2 hours further south?
Last year, we had 2 from M4 corridor, one from Felixstowe, myself, one from Derby, and 2 from North of Hadrian (excluding partners etc).

We originally picked the Lakes because it allowed our Jockular friends to join us - the Lakes is not far off halfway between me an Hotel21. With Newent being the Southern meet.

TBH, bring it further south, thus effectively excluding the Scots, you may as well bring it right down below Birmingham to make it nearer those who seem to be the ones who always go  :-\

Of course, if Chester means more members go, for whatever reason, thats brilliant :y

Either way, due to insufficient interest, I have no intention of pursuing the Lakes any further.
