Took the driver's seat back apart to reposition the upper backrest air bladder.

Been meaning to look at it for months as it got folded over on itself and wouldn't deflate, meaning the upper backrest was digging into my shoulders.

All sorted and back together and working again so hopefully a more comfortable commute again

I should add, even now, there aren't many large estate cars to compare to the Omega, (E Class, Volvo V90, possibly the Pissat/Superb), and if you look after it, it should serve you well

Rust. Particularly around the front chassis legs and rear sills.

The usual rules apply re water ingress and rodent damage.

Being the BMW 6 cylinder lump rather than the GM 2.2dti, it should go ok. Haynes manual might be of use.

Depending on specification it may have self levelling rear suspension. If this doesn't work and you fit standard rear shocks then you're going to need to uprate the rear springs. If it requires suspension repairs then budget around €1000 to go through it.

One of the 2? Pilot towns was the town 2 miles from me...
Feedback nearly all bad (exceptions of schools / housing estates etc)

I'd love to know what lessons were learned from the feedback.....I'd suggest none, so why pilot in the first place.

For rear shocks, you've €33 to lose. For fronts, because of the work involved, don't cut too many corners. Sachs are what it left the factory with. But it depends what problem you are trying to fix as weak springs or failing subframe bushes may cause similar handling symptoms.

If it's just bulbs, I find Osram bulbs to be strong performers.

The headlight lenses can be polished back to a level of usefulness.

I used Depo lights on mine to good effect, but you perhaps have to rework some elements to fit the xenon ballast holders..

I suspect other cheaper alternatives will be less good. And make sure they are like for like as there are several variations.

TRW shocks probably OK, but first choice would be Sachs. Also, it would be sensible to go through the entire suspension if you're doing the front shocks. Rear shocks can be changed independently of anything else but again the springs, track rods and rear subframe mounts would be a good idea whilst you're at it.

Partly depends on why you feel the need to change the shocks...

Whilst they may not fail, isn't there a requirement that if equipment is fitted but not a compulsory item, ie rear wash wipe, it should work as expected otherwise be marked as an advisory item

Buy a cheap car that lasts three years... first major issue you trade it in for a new one because "it's worth more as a deposit" than the cost to fix it.

Repeat until the customer stops driving.

Think H1s are the wrong bulb for the Irmscher lamps

I know I had to cut off the original plugs when I fitted mine but they were replaced with a different plug, but damned if I can recall the bulbs it came with.

It was bought new from Irmscher, so not previously interfered with, which second hand may have been.

The lamp casings were used on something else, Mundeo ST200 iirc... In which case H11 was quite probably what was fitted originally.

A "P1600" doesn't confirm the ECU is dead or faulty
it could be a damaged loom, connector pin, blown fuse .poor earth ,trapped wire or similar
even a sensor plugged in the wrong part of the loom or moisture ingress 
proper inspection and methodical diagnostics are required 

But it has been chipped, so much more likely the issue
