Car wouldn't start this morning, the Stag ECU had finally killed the feed to the petrol injectors, so at 7:00am this morning I had to remove the plenum again and disconnect all the soddin' LPG wiring.  :'(  Yes it had started snowing.

Did you try disconnecting power from the Stag? They should fall back to the petrol injectors without power.

No, I didn't try disconnecting power specifically.  It was OK for a couple of days after the failed flash attempt, running with power applied however this last attempt to program seemed to have upset it totally. I tried to reprogram several times then gave up and removed the wiring. Attempting to reflash, it seems to get so far, 6% or even 33% one time then drops out. I wonder if the flash is worn out and is replaceable, will have a look tomorrow.

Have you tried a PC with a serial port rather than one of those horrid USB to RS232 convertors?

Thanks for the suggestion. Thing is I was able to connect OK and make basic adjustments, and run calibrate using a USB to Serial, so I assumed it was OK. I have made a long serial lead so will try using a PC tomorrow.

For firmware updates after it's been bricked you're probably talking to the boot ROM in the device rather than the main ECU firmware (which is what you're updating) so the serial protocol might be less robust. Worth a try with a proper serial port IMHO.

Great stuff!

Hate convertors with a passion. Trouble is, laptops with a genuine a RS232 port are thin on the ground now. Hence why I use a variety of old D series Dell's for my job.

Grrr, finally found why i could smell diesel all the time!!
hate incompetence!!
at some point someone has had inlet manifold off i assume to change glowplugs, anyway long story short
the return pipe from the injection pump(metal) had not been clipped back properly and had been chaffing on a casting on the head right at the back of the cam cover, this has rubbed a small hole in the return pipe which leaked diesel down the back of the engine over the bell housing, hence why i couldnt find it!! every time i went out to look for it after engine had cooled down i was expecting to see a pool/puddle of diesel somewhere on the engine and never could!! engine has always been smoky at low revs since ive had it, as the fuel pressure is now correct as it isnt leaking, the black smoke has also lessened considerably, bonus!!! :y in fairness to whoever did the job it was very very difficult to see it wasnt clipped in, and the leak was on the inside edge of the line, so again very damned difficult to see,
but boy am i glad i found it!! was driving me nuts!!strange thing is you could only smell it every so often,so assuming that sometimes where it was chaffing it settled just in the right place to almost block the  hole!

reset eml again (code 0420) !! changed fuel to Total the other day (always fill up at Sainsbury usually) so assuming fuel switch is problem. I do not want to get involved in the sensor repositioning
