Fail. I wanted it to show the pic, not a link.

copy the picture into your dropbox public folder. when the green "tick" appears .. right click and choose "copy public link", come to the forum, right click and "paste" .. you should get something like ..

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/85356592/IMG_0651.jpg

note the dl.dropbox bit .. that proves its a public link ... add the [img ]http://[/ img] tags without the spaces and you get

Photobucket just makes life easier. Did this with the iPhone also, Drop Box Is probably even more complicated trying to use a smart phone to upload pictures such as these..

Lovely car by the way  :-*

are you on the dropbox website .. or the dropbox folder on your computor ?? The "share public link" context menu (right click) comes from the public folder on the computor .. NOT the "cloud storage"

From Dropbox instructions ...

"The Public folder lets you easily share single files in your Dropbox. Any file you put in this folder gets its own Internet link that you can share with others -- even non-Dropbox users!

Step 1:  Drop a file into the Public folder.

Step 2:  Right-click this file, then choose Dropbox > Copy Public Link. This copies an Internet link to your file that you can paste anywhere: emails, instant messages, blogs, etc.

That's it! To share your file, just send the link to a friend.

Happy Dropboxing!
- The Dropbox Team

P.S. You can only link to actual files within your Public folder, not to folders. For help with sharing files visit http://www.dropbox.com/help/16 "

I get exactly the same link whether I use the website or the folder on my computer, tablet or phone. They never start with dl, no matter what folder I pick them from - Dropbox latest software(I'm using a computer I bought in August) doesn't give you a public folder, they say that the link does that for you(this is clearly stated in the link to their help page you've just posted) except it does not work!
Here is another annoying little symbol that ought to be a photo:

and an entirely unrelated 'photo' from a different file

If you can tell me what they are Nigel, I'll send you a replacement plug socket in the drive of your choice!

First pic is a welded wheel arch, second pic is of a Ford Capri.  :y

I was able to view your photo by clicking on 'quote', as if I wanted to reply, copying your link, pasting it in to the browser, changing www to dl, removing the img tabs and then open the Dropbox page. I could have then saved your image to my local folder but I knew Nige would beat me to it.  :y

Keep at it and you will get there in the end. I've done screen dumps of each process using photobucket for other members in the past and when you get to a certain place it all seems to make sense and you can work out where it was going wrong.  :y

If you don't have a public folder try this link ... don't know how it works as when I go to it I get told I already have a public folder !! No idea if this still works as the article is dated 2 years ago !!

OK  multiple testing has sussed it for you ...

your original link:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xke7ybxiv7hm7gy/ArchWelded.jpg?dl=0

you add the tags and it doesn't work

now .. simply change the dl=0 to dl=1

https://www.dropbox.com/s/xke7ybxiv7hm7gy/ArchWelded.jpg?dl=1

add the tags and .....   voila

dl=1 forces the picture to be downloaded, so it opens. If you click the link it will open in your photo application not a web browser

You will need to save as the size you want as well .. no resize option on dropbox that I can find

Only paid for accounts in the last few years can  have a public folder.

For everyone else, just right click on the file you want to share which must be in the drop box folder on your pc.
Then click 'share dropbox link'
it shares it, and puts the link in your clipboard so you just need to paste it in here (adding any image links etc you want too)

I have been doing 'just' that. Copying and pasting the link isn't a problem, it is that the link that they provide doesn't do what they say it will! Anywhere, not only on this site.
Further to Nigel's testing I will have another try later, but having to change the given link is a massive opps up!

Ive just done the getting started guide....can you do the same with this, or any other file, regardless if the link works or not

https://www.dropbox.com/s/9t3hr2c6s5auijo/Get%20Started%20with%20Dropbox.pdf?dl=0

edit, just seen you have and your links do work, just not when in the img tags....hmmmm

Sorted, as per Entwood.

Looks like there is no way to copy and paste the new system and have it work, annoyingly.

But changing the dl=0 to dl=1 does work, as below, just delete the spaces from the img tags
