If you have memory seats, you have loom (plug and play) - though all memory seats should have the mirror anyway.

If you don't have the memory seats, thats when you need to make those 4 connections ;)

How much did the ebay one go for?

Exactly.

I have one in the MV6, just wired for autodip, no memory seats.

Yes you can move it by hand, when you set the memory on the seat; it also remembers where the door & rear view mirrors are

The exterior mirrors are also memory, so you may want to consider changing these....

Unless your car was fitted with memory seats, it will have none of the loom...

just to point out the mounting bracket for the auto dimming mirror is different on facelift and pre-facelift.

So make sure one off eBay or where ever you get it is the right one!  :)

Wiring up the self dipping mirror is easy.

Live feed, earth, and reverse override (to disable tinting when reverse is selected).

Now,as for fitting memory seats... into an MV6? Why??

The whole point of the MV6 is that it is the "sporty" model with, among other things, superbly comfortable recaro seats.

I would just fit a self tinting mirror (brilliant things!) and move it by hand as you would a normal mirror. :)

Drove mine the dark for the first time yesterday and saw the self dimming mirror in action. Brilliant feature just found it a bit odd trying to get used to it.

Definitely worth the trouble of fitting.

And courtesy light, so it doesn't dim if courtesy light on - simple connection near mirror anyway...

This is a guide for installing the mirror using it's tint function only.
Applies to facelift.  I believe the mirrors are the same electrically, but the facelift has a different mount.  (Thanks Tunnie).

The mirror can still be adjusted easily by hand.

I bought mine S/Hand from www.Leavalleymotors.co.uk  (About £40).

The battery should always be disconnected before carrying out any electrical  work.

If the tint only function is needed, you don't need a long length of loom with the mirror, just the wires immediatetly exiting it.  (Can be snipped from donor car easily).

Remove old mirror by knocking the base downwards as though sliding the mirror down the inside of the windscreen.  You can see how it fits by inspecting the new mirror.
You'll need to hold it with one hand and thump your hand with the other.  It's quite stiff.

The tinting mirror and car loom wire colours seem to vary, so the best thing to do is pop the back off the mirror and inspect the innards.

The control board is on the left, the motors are in the centre.

For tint only, you need to connect IGN (Blue/Grey) to a switched 12v supply and GND (Brown) to 0V.
You can connect REV (Pink/Purple) to the reversing lights circuit to disable tinting in reverse, is you wish.

The wires are fed to a socket in the mirror mount.

The socket has 11 pins and one blank.  (Blank is Pin1, bottom right.  Pin6 is bottom left)

IGN (Blue/Grey) is pin2, next to blank.
GND (Brown) is pin5.
REV (Pink/Purple) is pin3.

As I didn't have the plug to fit the mount socket, I had to find a way to connect to the socket pins.
Hopefully, your mirror should come with a socket on a long length of cable or bare wires exiting the mirror.

I found that a computer motherboard connector fitted on the pins exactly.  (Better than snipping and soldering wires in the mount).

Here it is, dangling from the exit hole in the headlining, where the mirror fits.  Coincidently, it's wires were red and black.

The two ends of the wires were connected to the wires of a plug I found under the headlining.  (Sunroof.  Unused in my case).

Here is the other end of the red and black wires where they are attached to the plug.

In the sunroof plug, Brown is 0V and Black is Ign 12v.  They are placed on opposite diagonal corners of the plug.
Strip back a little of the insulation and solder the mirror wires to the exposed conductors.
Insulate with tape.

Re-assemble and it should work.  Slide the mirror upwards toward the headlining until it locates.

You'll notice that there are two light sensors.  On the front and back of the mirror.
The unit knows if it's night as both sensors read low.  Now if the sensor on the mirror face suddenly receives a burst of light from a following car's lights, it compares it with the other sensor's output and if there is a big difference, dims the mirror.
It isn't affected by cars coming towards you as the sensors have narrow field of view lenses.

The tinting is fast to actuate and clear.

A very useful addition.

That's a top "how to".
Was just wondering; I have one of these FF, but it only rotates horizontally & I'm wondering if that's normal? It doesn't bother me as it's at the correct angle & I don't want to force it to see if moves vertically.

They don't move quite as easily as manual mirrors, but it should move vertically.  The motors drive the mirror via 'clutches', which allow for movement if the mirror is knocked and for setting it to a start position before the motors are needed.

Edit.  Oh, and Nickffc, it's a case of knocking the mirror downwards, as though sliding it down the inside of the glass.
I found the replacement very much easier to fit than the original.  (Not as tight).

Cheers Hillper, it does indeed move vertically although not smoothly like it does horizontally. I had to kind of crack it to get it moving & it moves jerkily, but is becoming smoother the more I try it.
Only had the car the car three years & didn't know, kind of fun watching it go back when I press the memory!

Has Laidback66 managed to get his hands on one yet only he did ask if my other one was up for grabs yet, still not tested :)

He seems to have gone off the scene for abit, he may be interested if still after one.

Pin 4 according to the 'documentation'.

The dim function is disabled with a voltage on the 'REV' wire.  (Pink/purple?)

The voltage is intended to come from the reverse light circuit.

Be careful tapping into the courtesy mirror circuit as I believe the bulbs are driven by puny transistors and may not be able to drive the pin 4 input.  Though they should be OK.

iirc the mirror has a connection so it does not dim when the interior light is illuminated !! mabye that was  pin 4 in the plug as there seems  to be a spare wire from mirror ??  :-?

Correct! but only for main interior light, not reading lights etc. If you don't have seat memory loom, this has to be picked up by connecting into courtesy light.

Dunno what pin, as I had a bit of loom anyway - but I followed Hillper's colour code, and that worked when I fitted mine...

The best thing to do is open the mirror and check what colour wire is conneceted to 'REV' output on the control board.
That's the wire you need to connect to, to disable the tint function, whether it be from the reversing light circuit or the interior light.

Edit.  You can swivel the socket in the mirror mount to see which wire goes to which pin.  You can even lever it out if you need to.

Didn't open my mirror, but presumably there is a connection for Reversing and for Courtesy to prevent dimming?

Looking at the how to again, you can see that inside my mirror are four connections to the control board, including 'REV' and 'LMP'.
I assume 'LMP' is courtesy lamps.
As I said before, I would be unsure as to whether it's OK to connect the self fading courtesy light to the 'REV' input.
