As we seem to be on memory lane, talking about Carlton and senators, Vauxhall has revived the GSi badge on the new insignia and I’ve already seen my first and like the Carlton they look really smart in grey !

though , let's face it , the cars we all love ,carlton, senator and omega B are all re-badged opel cars built in Russelsheim Germany anyway :P

I see Vauxhall tv adds are promoting the "British company since" 1903 ?
If anybody wants to buy GSi badges , for their 1 ltr Corsa etc , they sell on Ebay :y

The family Corsa wears an SXI badge.

They can paint it gunmetal grey and stick a GSi badge on it, but it doesn't have rwd, 6 cylinders or 24 valves so it aint a real GSi. :)

Didn't really matter, as in the targeted market, the badge meant more than the performance/handling.
Hence, it stood for State Registered idiot.

I never had a problem with rebadged Opels. Rebranded French Pugeots though !! :o :( :o >:(............NEVER.

My astra wears an 'elite' badge, but it hasn't even got Bluetooth, or sat nav. Badges mean eff all. Used to, though.

Mind you, it's far more of a luxury product that an Astra derv. :P

Wot duz "implied" mean? ;D The GSi badge to me meant you had something a bit "special"[for want of a better word]where the SRi was a "go faster" model that wasn't and everyone and their grandmother had one.

2l turbo one? Properly quick in its time, and handled not too bad once you finished sucking your smalls up your arse when it did one of its understeer moments. Apparently. I wouldn't know personally. Move along now.

Can't have been as bad as a Montego turbo with utterly shagged front suspension. That needed to be in the middle lane of an empty motorway if you used more than half throttle.
Although the VVC Metro doesn't need much steering input to move into the right-hand lane

No, the 600 had proper suspension, so was reasonably well behaved :y
Mine was actually a 623 with the Honda engine. Proper engine, that was. It would pull from about 1200 revs in top gear, no need to change down.

I know it was totally outperformed by later Rovers and I know that plenty slate every aspect of it, but I still think the SD1 Vitesse was one of the best looking cars Rover ever produced (well threw together with the minimal of quality control and care). I guess my retro garage would have a Granada Consul, Rover SD1 Twin Plenum Vitesse, Senator 24v and maybe the odd Omega!

Saw a Granada Scorpio, (not the fugly Ultima) in Bury today. Looked superb. Was on my bike when he pulled up beside me. He looked well chuffed when i complimented him on it. Took me back to my Granny days. Ah, nostalgia. 8)

They were nice, but the P6 is the one I would have, I think. That was a rare (unique?) departure from British car industry "styling by bean-counter" to produce a car with a lot of innovative features that looked "right" from every angle IMHO.

Possibly, but the designer usually got told that he'd be designing a completely new model from a clean sheet.. "But we've got all these old landcrab doors in stores, you see, and it'd be a shame to waste them...."

P6 was a lovely car to drive and imo a good looker too[I had one]but strictly a 4 seater really.Front suspension used springs mounted horizontally to the bulkhead[they say it was done this way as they were toying with the idea of slotting a turbine engine into it]don't know who designed it though.SD1 was again a lovely car to drive and looked well[let down of course by BL's legendary build quality and the fact that in the paint plant where they were painted-with a then new fangled paint type-had the extractor fans fitted wrong way round so they pushed air into the place rather than pulling the air out!] I had 2 of those though sadly not a Vitesse version.Designed by David Bache I believe? Who they say took frontal styling cues from the Ferrari Daytona.
